Position Summary
The primary location of this position is on-site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being subject to the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act ( SHRA).

The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate administrative, operational, communication, and visitor-facing support for the Mountain Heritage Center. The position prepares museum correspondence and other communications, supports the Center's website and social media platforms, and interacts with students, faculty and staff, as well as the public, vendors, and outside contractors.

The position coordinates the employment, orientation, scheduling, time sheet reporting, and selected project work of student workers and interns, while also tracking multiple schedules for staff, events, special programs, and overall workflow.

The position introduces visitors to the museum, assists with orientation to the university, and provides information regarding MHC programs and exhibits.

It also prepares budgets, contracts, purchasing documents, and work orders; tracks expenditures from state and non-state funds; maintains paper records and electronic databases needed for reports on visitation, programming, student and community engagement, and other operational information; and ensures compliance with MHC, WCU, state, and federal policies and regulations regarding records, privacy, and sensitive materials.

Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

  • Knowledge of administrative office practices, records management procedures, budgeting support functions, and the use of computer applications, office equipment, and digital communication tools to support daily operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse internal and external audiences through written, verbal, electronic, and in-person communication, including public contact, visitor assistance, and program-related outreach.
  • Ability to organize work, manage multiple schedules and priorities, exercise initiative, maintain attention to detail, and work collaboratively with staff, students, interns, volunteers, vendors, and campus or community partners.
