Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
Looking for an Acute Care Surgeon to join the Division of Acute Care Surgery within a major academic medical center. The candidate should have expertise across the three core components of Acute Care Surgery-Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care-with a focus on clinical excellence, multidisciplinary care, education, research, quality improvement, and programmatic growth.
As an attending at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, responsibilities will include all aspects of patient care and medical record completion, teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows through clinical patient rounds, Grand Rounds, morbidity and mortality conferences, and departmental conferences; participation in scholarly activities, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical research; submission of abstracts/manuscripts for publication; and other duties as assigned by the Division Chief, Chair, or Dean. Position duties will be to function as an Acute Care Surgeon within the Acute Care Surgery program.

  • Provide clinical care for patients across the full spectrum of Acute Care Surgery (ACS) [Trauma, Surgical Critical Care (ICU), Emergency General Surgery (EGS)], including in-patient and out-patient (office/clinic) at RWJUH as well as EGS and ICU coverage at RWJ Somerset Hospital.
  • Respond to trauma activations and provide timely specialty consultations.
  • Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up recommendations effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical availability for consultations and follow-up care.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, morbidity and mortality conferences, grand rounds, and academic activities.
  • Participate in scheduled Acute Care Surgery call responsibilities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of clinical protocols, guidelines, and critical care pathways.
  • Mentor junior faculty in clinical practice, leadership, and academic development.
  • Pursue academic and research interests, including education, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with medical documentation standards.
  • Complete accurate and timely medical records and billing documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, leadership abilities, and commitment to teamwork.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • This position requires an M.D., D.O., or equivalent medical degree.
  • Completion of a General Surgery Residency Program.
  • Fellowship training in Acute Care Surgery or related specialty.
  • Board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Surgery.
  • Board-certified or eligible for Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid New Jersey medical license.
