The estimated base salary range for this role is $110,000 to $135,000 per year.
Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors

Under the guidance of the Plant Manager, theTechnical Services Manager responsible for the effective management and coordination of the plant chemistry, process engineering, and lab resources and plant quality assurance. This includes Process and Chemistry support including the application of good science, New Product Development, Lean Support, Quality Assurance, Six Sigma, Cost Reduction Planning and Business Process Management. It is accountable for providing the leadership to develop the managing systems for these areas and providing the organizational effectiveness to improve and sustain these systems. Leadership responsibilities include aligning the resources described above, with the plant's vision, mission, principles and values and for implementing the necessary systems to motivate and enable these resources to help achieve the vision.

What does a Technical Services Manager do?

  • Develops, implements, sustains and audits robust quality management systems to ensure key product quality measures are achieved through controlled and predictable manufacturing processes
  • Leads quality assurance activities and implementing quality systems to improve overall customer experience, claims performance, product and packaging quality and detection of defects
  • Oversees processes that ensure compliance with product requirements
  • Provides guidance and training to plant personnel who make product quality decisions
  • Assists with quality troubleshooting
  • Ensures timely and fair resolution of complaint handling and claims processes in collaboration with corporate Quality Assurance and Sales Representatives
  • Works with internal plant and business leaders such as corporate quality, process improvement, product management, along with external groups to identify and scope new process improvement opportunities in the areas of quality, cost and service
  • Owns and ensures compliance with the plant change management process to ensure that critical-to-customer product attributes are maintained or improved upon
  • Monthly Score card reporting on key supplier performances along with countermeasures on out of standard performances. Working with equipment and raw material suppliers to improve product performance, reduce costs and identify new technologies or methods
  • Supports overall R&D and NPD efforts at Hilliard and with Lancaster-based support teams
  • Actively supports and engages in Lean transformation and related efforts, including daily Gemba Walks, Quality Glass Wall, Value Stream Mapping sessions, Driving MDI and HOP, and creation and use of Standard Work
  • Oversees the continued evolution, development, and execution of plant quality processes, such as daily board reviews, Q&S reviews, technical and quality assessments, and In-Process Quality Assurance (IPQA) performance and attainment
  • Keeping abreast of technical developments and advances, and devising and/or recommending their application when advantageous
  • Provides urgent, 24/7 technical support to plant operational issues which include major downtime, quality, safety and environmental incidents
  • Identifies best practices through the use of sound scientific methods, data analysis and standardizing those practices by developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and/or Standard Work within the plant
  • Serves as active member of the plant leadership team, and partners with other managers to discuss and resolve non-routine issues and challenges
  • Promoting continuous learning and skill improvement, and developing current and future leaders
  • Participates in and advocates for the Plant Safety Process
  • Ensures safe work practices and behaviors in assigned areas
  • Partners with the plant's EHS Manager to develop plant strategic and operating plans that meet corporate requirements, and ensure environmental, safety and OSHA compliance while improving overall operating results

Supervisory Responsibilities:Supervises a team of multiple process engineers and technicians

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, quality, engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years of plant chemistry, process engineering, and quality assurance experience
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office
  • Ability to understand and use various computer software programs
  • Ability to identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • SAP experience
