North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine (
CVM) is a dynamic community dedicated to developing veterinarians and veterinary scientists through advancing animal and human health from cellular through ecosystem levels. With the graduation of its first class in 1985, the
CVM is one of the younger veterinary programs in the country. Despite its relative youth, the College has gained international recognition on the strength of its teaching, research, engagement, and patient care efforts and is ranked 3rd amount the nation's 28 college of veterinary medicine in the most recent U.S. News & World Report survey. Located on 180 acres near downtown Raleigh, the College encompasses 20 buildings on the main Centennial Biomedical Campus. In addition to the four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, the College offers Masters and Doctoral degrees. Faculty and student work across disciples, employing cutting edge technologies in both basic and applied research in human and veterinary medicine.
The Dean's Office is the leading administrative unit of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The
CVM Business Office provides the fiscal management for the College, as well responsible for Personnel and Programmatic analysis planning and reporting. It is the responsibility of the Business Office to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the fiscal operations of the College. The Business Office's goals are to optimize the use of the University's financial resources and ensure that all State, Federal, University and College rules, regulations, policies and procedures are strictly adhered to. This includes budget control, cash and gift receipting, travel reimbursement, expenditure approval, auditing, and asset management. The Business Office also is responsible for all aspects of the payroll/personnel function. |

| Essential Job Duties |
The Accounting Manager provides strategic leadership for the financial and business operations of the College of Veterinary Medicine, ensuring resources are managed effectively in support of the college's academic, research, and clinical missions. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Finance & Business, this position oversees financial management, business operations, compliance, and internal controls while promoting operational excellence and sound fiscal stewardship across the college.
In this role, you will partner with college leadership, faculty, department administrators, and central university offices to provide financial guidance, strengthen business processes, and ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations. Through collaborative leadership and continuous process improvement, you will help the college make informed financial decisions, enhance operational efficiency, and support long-term organizational success.
Key Responsibilities fall within the following core functional areas:
Financial Leadership & Stewardship:
- Lead the college's financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and fiscal year-end activities.
- Monitor financial performance across multiple funding sources and provide analysis to support informed decision-making.
- Ensure responsible stewardship of university resources through accurate financial oversight and compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
- Review and approve financial transactions to ensure accuracy, accountability, and sound fiscal management.
Business Operations & Process Improvement:
- Oversee daily business operations, including procurement, accounts payable and receivable, travel, PCard administration, and related financial services.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve business processes, standard operating procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure accurate reconciliations and maintain the integrity of financial records and reporting.
- Partner with departments to support budget planning and operational effectiveness.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Lead, coach, and develop the business office team while fostering a collaborative, customer-focused culture.
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to college leadership, faculty, and departmental administrators by translating complex financial information into actionable guidance.
- Build strong partnerships with university offices and stakeholders to support strategic initiatives and achieve organizational goals.
- Promote accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional service across the college's business functions.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Other Discipline related to the area of assignment with 12 Credit Hours of accounting coursework and three years of professional accounting experience, of which at least one is supervisory; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

| Other Required Qualifications |
- Experience managing financial operations, budgeting, and business functions within a complex organization.
- Knowledge of financial management principles, compliance requirements, and the administration of multiple funding sources, including state, receipt, contract and grant, trust, and other institutional funds.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, including pivot tables, lookup functions (XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP), conditional formatting, data validation, and troubleshooting complex spreadsheets.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, prepare reports, and present recommendations that support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Proven success developing or improving financial and administrative processes, internal controls, or operational efficiencies.
- Leadership experience supervising, coaching, and developing professional staff while fostering accountability and collaboration.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience managing financial and business operations within a higher education, academic health, or similarly complex public-sector environment.
- Proficiency using enterprise financial systems, such as PeopleSoft, and financial reporting tools to manage budgets, reporting, and financial transactions.
- Experience supporting financial management for sponsored projects, research administration, or other restricted funding environments.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives that improve business processes, operational efficiency, or financial reporting.
