Join the University of Minnesota Office of Admissions as a Developer for Slate and Admissions Systems, where you'll play a key role in shaping the technology that supports hundreds of thousands of prospective students each year. As part of our Information & Innovation team, you'll design innovative solutions, automate business processes, build integrations, and collaborate with colleagues across undergraduate Admissions to improve the student experience from inquiry to application through enrollment.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, partnering with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and using technology to improve business processes. You'll have the opportunity to lead projects, influence system design, and help shape the future of admissions technology at one of the nation's leading public research universities.
Our team values curiosity, collaboration, continuous learning, and creative problem solving. While our team currently works on campus one day every two weeks, we are open to considering fully remote work arrangements for the right candidate, subject to University approval.

Duties

Slate Development & Systems Administration (60%)
Serve as a technical leader for the Office of Admissions' Technolutions Slate platform, supporting the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of admissions systems.
* Design, configure, develop, test, document, and maintain Slate applications, workflows, forms, portals, communications, and business processes.
* Develop and maintain data imports, exports, integrations, and automation that support the admissions lifecycle.
* Build and maintain application data feeds, source formats, and monitoring processes to ensure data integrity.
* Develop and maintain integrations with enterprise systems using technologies such as SQL, APIs, middleware, and other supported tools.
* Conduct application testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and quality assurance for new features and enhancements.
* Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, reliability, and user experience.
* Maintain technical documentation and ensure solutions are scalable, sustainable, and well supported.

Business Process Analysis & Consultation (15%)
Partner with admissions leadership and functional staff from operations, communications, and recruitment to improve business processes through technology.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements.
* Design technology solutions that support both short- and long-term enrollment goals.
* Evaluate existing workflows and recommend improvements through automation and system enhancements.
* Develop reports and business intelligence solutions that support operational decision making.
* Monitor implemented solutions to ensure business needs are met and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
* Create business process documentation and provide cross-training to support operational continuity.
* Apply federal digital accessibility standards and best practices when designing, developing, testing, and maintaining Slate-supported solutions and other user-facing functionality.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration (15%)
Provide technical leadership across the Office of Admissions while fostering collaboration among technical and non-technical colleagues.
* Serve as a technical resource and mentor to colleagues using Slate and related admissions technologies.
* Lead small- to medium-sized technical projects from planning through implementation.
* Facilitate meetings with technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements, communicate project progress, and coordinate system enhancements.
* Provide training and technical guidance to users across the Office of Admissions.
* Collaborate with University partners and vendors to resolve technical issues and implement new functionality.

Continuous Improvement & Strategic Initiatives (10%)
Support strategic initiatives that improve the Office of Admissions' technology environment.
* Promote inclusive technology practices by identifying and supporting opportunities to improve digital accessibility across admissions systems and processes.
* Research and evaluate emerging technologies and software solutions that support admissions operations.
* Participate in system upgrades, vendor evaluations, and implementation projects.
* Maintain production applications and respond to operational issues.
* Contribute to team initiatives that improve documentation, security, system reliability, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

Required
* BA/BS plus at least two years of experience, or master's degree.
* Three or more years of experience supporting enterprise applications, software development, business systems analysis, or application administration.
* Experience configuring or supporting complex software systems.
* Demonstrated ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
* Experience troubleshooting technical issues and managing multiple priorities.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred
* Proficiency in administering Technolutions Slate.
* Knowledge of SQL (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar).
* Familiarity with APIs, data integrations, ETL processes, or middleware platforms.
* Background supporting admissions or higher education technology.
* Ability to design business process automations.
* Demonstrated success leading technical projects or cross-functional initiatives.
* Skill in creating technical documentation and conducting end-user training.
* Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive technology practices.

About the Department

The Office of Admissions enrolls first-year and transfer students at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities students through innovative technology, collaborative partnerships, and a commitment to exceptional service. The Information & Innovation team develops and supports the systems that power admissions operations, working closely with recruitment, communications, holistic review, and enrollment leadership to improve processes and enhance the student experience.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $84,300 - 88,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment

Position Type: Faculty and P&A Staff

While our salary ranges provide a framework, it is important to note that most of the
time, the initial pay may not reach the maximum of the range. This approach ensures
that compensation reflects the value and unique contributions of each candidate while
maintaining equity within our organization. As part of our commitment to fair and

will be based on their individual credentials and experience.
