This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your expertise in mechanical and piping systems, contributing directly to the creation of highly efficient, reliable, and safe data center infrastructure. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of digital connectivity, working across the entire project lifecycle from design to commissioning. Your contributions will directly influence the success of large-scale projects and ensure our solutions meet the highest industrial standards and customer requirements.

What You'll Do



  • Check and approve drawings, information, and documentation to ensure they meet industrial standards and codes, enabling the manufacturing group and other departments to produce data center infrastructure modules.
  • Review and monitor engineering work to assure accuracy and conformance with client and/or company specifications, governing codes, good engineering practices, good safety practices, project procedures, and job requirements.
  • Attend and initiate Design and Development Planning and Review sessions to meet customer and industry needs.
  • Prepare Technical Requisitions (TRs) for mechanical systems and various components.
  • Review vendor quotations and provide feedback to the procurement team.
  • Prepare and complete various mechanical engineering deliverable drawings, documents, and calculations such as valve lists, equipment lists, piping line lists, piping stress/flexibility studies, line sizing of pipe, and mechanical equipment data sheets.
  • Prepare bulk Material Take Offs (MTOs) and detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Think creatively and innovatively to find solutions that reduce costs while managing the impact on quality, cost, or schedule.
  • Stay informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization to recommend changes in programs and applications.
  • Interpret, organize, and execute assignments in a self-driven and self-sufficient manner.
  • Make independent decisions on technical problems and methods, and represent the organization in meetings to resolve important questions.
  • Apply advanced or state-of-the-art knowledge and experience to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in engineering and data center technologies, recommending new technologies to improve the reliability and efficiency of the data center product line.
  • Select/specify proper painting and coating systems for various items within data centers.
  • Select and design piping insulation where and as needed.
  • Determine brackets, fastening, bolting, and/or mounting of components and major equipment.
  • Advise and assist project and discipline engineers with the interpretation and clarification of applicable industry codes and client specification requirements.
  • Supervise outsourcing of piping engineering work if necessary.
  • Create or check "Design Basis" documents specific to projects, based on applicable codes, client specifications, company scope of supply, and approved exception lists.
  • Perform or check pipe stress analysis with all applicable design loads and design combinations in accordance with the "Design Basis."
  • Provide piping load information to structural engineers.
  • Review "as-built" drawings and re-run or check calculations, as required, to ensure conformity.
  • Represent the company with customers during review meetings, acting as the primary point of contact for inquiries and concerns.
  • Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to RFIs and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Attend job site visits, project meetings, and commissioning activities as needed.


Must-Have Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • 2 to 10 years of experience in mechanical design and engineering, with a focus on data center infrastructure.
  • Ability to produce drawings/sketches to illustrate design/ideas.
  • General knowledge and direct experience with the construction, operation, and maintenance of data centers or mechanical systems and components.
  • Strong knowledge in piping and fire suppression system design and construction.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations, including but not limited to: AISI, ANSI, ASME (specifically B&PV Section VIII, IX, B31.3), ASTM, AWS, IBC, MFMA, MSS, OSHA, NACE, NFPA, PFI.
  • Experience working with computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software.
  • Experience with fast-track design/build projects and/or multiple significant upgrade projects.
  • Detailed understanding and experience in piping systems, design, layout, routing, components, and piping specialty items.
  • Detailed understanding of chillers, cooling towers, direct and indirect evaporative cooling, mechanical control systems, fan systems, acoustics, pumps, vessels, valves, coolers, and other critical mechanical equipment and systems found within data centers.
  • Basic understanding of electrical equipment and system design within data centers driving or affecting mechanical scope.
  • Direct experience in negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding departures from code and ultimately achieving design approval and permitting.
  • Mastery knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Mastery knowledge and proficiency in PDF Editor (Adobe, Foxit, or other equivalent).
  • Mastery knowledge and proficiency in CAESAR II, NozzlePro, FEPipe.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound decisions and think creatively.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Performs well under pressure in high-stress environments.
  • Extremely comfortable with task switching as priorities change.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  • Ability to think creatively and identify opportunities to enhance the client experience.
  • Extreme work ethic and maintains a high level of quality of work and due diligence.
  • Fluency, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with a cross-functional team.


Nice-to-Have Qualifications



  • Other Degrees considered (Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, etc.) with increased relevant data center expertise.
  • Professional Engineering License (strongly preferred, especially for more senior candidates).
  • Operational knowledge in SAP (ERP Tool with Engineering Modules and Transactions), Solid Works, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk BIM 360, Autodesk AutoCAD, Navisworks Manager / Freedom, 3E Plus, Pipe Data Pro, COMPRESS.
  • Subsea experience (analogous experience).


Compensation

The target hiring compensation range for this role is $90K - $135K base + 10% - 20% performance based on experience.

Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
