Job Description
ECU Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness is currently seeking several Athletic First Responders.

SCOPE OF POSITION
The Athletic First Responders assist in training, evaluations, and athlete care of Sport Program activities, specifically club sports where they will evaluate and assist in emergencies and administer immediate first aid and CPR if necessary. Additional duties: complete daily reports and forms, monitor and control AT equipment and supplies, communicate with Sport Program and Athletic Training staff, and work with contestants, employees, and club representatives to ensure an overall safe environment for participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of staff training and development.
  • Communicate updates with Sport Program Staff via Microsoft Teams and email.
  • Evaluate, observe, and provide care to selected club sports during weekly practice and games.
  • Develop one's knowledge, performance, and abilities through supervisor and self-reflection.
  • Administer immediate first aid and CPR when necessary.
  • Complete the Accident Report form in detail for all injuries requiring attention.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned as business dictates.
  • Provide feedback to injured persons and make recommendations on further care.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to handle potential injuries.
  • Communicate with Athletic Training Staff when injuries occur.
  • Know and implement the Emergency Action Plan procedures for each facility when the opportunity presents itself.
  • Report to the activity site as assigned by When2Work with appropriate attire and equipment for each assigned activity including but not limited to club sport practice, club sport games/matches, and external reservations.
  • Organize and inventory equipment in the first aid kits before and after each shift.
  • Hold employees accountable for policies and expectations of the Club Sports Staff to provide feedback constructively and document any concerns regarding employee performance.
  • Assist with water setup and breakdown for participants for club sport practices and games.
  • Assist Athletic Trainers in the Athletic Training Room with office duties.
  • Be able to track weather and decide when to suspend play regarding inclement weather.
  • Check in with opposing teams on Smartsheet and ensure they have completed the waiver.
  • Work with the Sports Programs Supervisor and Athletic Trainers when assigned to the event.


DATES OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Position is considered seasonal employment with varying hours dependent upon the calendar of activities.
  • Reports to the Assistant Director of Athletic Training

GPA Requirement Minimum of 2.0
Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)

  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate all CRW Vehicles

  • CPR/AED/First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens (provided at training), and Head, Neck, Muscle, Bone and Joint Injuries and Splinting (provided at training) certification is required. HIPAA Compliance Training must be completed through Cornerstone once hired
  • Effectively supervise and communicate with employees and participants
  • Organizational and management skills as they relate to report writing and completion of appropriate paperwork
  • A strong working knowledge and understanding of departmental policies and procedures
  • Freshman or sophomores are preferred
  • Interest in the medical field is preferred*
  • Knowledge and desire to become an American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor is preferred*
