Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Cal-SOAP Program Manager, the Student Success Coach provides entry-level professional student services support to high school students participating in Cal-SOAP programming. The incumbent delivers financial aid guidance, college advising, outreach, and workshop facilitation to promote college access and postsecondary enrollment.

The position is responsible for providing structured advising services, assisting students and families with financial aid and college application processes, supporting program outreach efforts, and maintaining accurate student service records in accordance with grant requirements.

This position is grant-funded and contingent upon continued funding.

Essential Functions

Student Advising and Financial Aid Support - 40%

• Provide individual and small group advising to high school students regarding college admissions requirements, A-G coursework, and postsecondary planning.
• Assist students and families with completion and submission of financial aid applications (FAFSA, CADAA) and related documentation.
• Support implementation of statewide financial aid initiatives (e.g., #AllInForFinancialAid campaign).
• Track student progress toward application, financial aid, and enrollment deadlines.
• Provide referrals to campus and community resources as appropriate.

Outreach, Recruitment, and Workshop Facilitation - 25%

• Deliver classroom presentations and workshops on college readiness, financial aid literacy, and application processes.
• Recruit eligible students to participate in Cal-SOAP services.
• Coordinate and support college visits, family workshops, and informational sessions.
• Prepare workshop materials and informational resources for students and families.

Program Coordination, Documentation, and Reporting - 20%

• Maintain accurate records of student contacts, services, and outcomes using designated databases (e.g., LACAI or other tracking systems).
• Compile and organize documentation to support program evaluation and grant reporting requirements.
• Assist in scheduling program services and coordinating event logistics.
• Ensure compliance with CSU, grant, and program reporting standards.

Collaboration and Professional Development - 10%

• Collaborate with high school counselors, school administrators, and Cal-SOAP staff to align services with student needs.
• Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, orientations, and professional development activities.
• Maintain professional working relationships with internal and external partners.

Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

• Perform related duties in support of program goals and student success initiatives.
• Assist with special projects during peak advising and financial aid seasons.

Results and Outputs

The Student Success Coach contributes directly to program effectiveness and student access to postsecondary education. Expected results and measurable outputs include:

• Increased completion rates of FAFSA and CADAA applications among participating students.
• Increased submission of college applications by eligible high school seniors.
• Accurate and timely entry of student service data into required databases.
• Delivery of scheduled workshops and advising sessions in accordance with program goals.
• Achievement of grant-defined student contact and service benchmarks.
• Positive student and school partner engagement and satisfaction.
• Compliance with reporting deadlines and documentation standards.

The incumbent supports institutional and grant objectives by ensuring students are informed, prepared, and supported throughout the college admissions and financial aid process.

Required Qualifications

• High diploma or equivalent.
• Enrollment in undergraduate program (at least 6 units) at the time of appointment.
• Must demonstrate financial need by providing a current Student Aid Index (SAI) report at the time of interview.
• Working knowledge of college admissions processes, A-G requirements, and federal/state financial aid programs.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse student populations and families.
• Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and utilize student information systems or databases.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with high school students in an academic advising, outreach, or college access program.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills.
• Familiarity with underserved and first-generation student populations.

The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or the continued employment of current UAS employees who apply for the position.
