Description The Lactation Specialist provides direct assistance to lactating patients and to the nurses responsible for patient care. S/he assumes independent responsibility and authority for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation/follow-up either by personal intervention or through delegation to team members. S/he individualizes patient care using age related concepts based on the unit population assigned for neonates (0-1 month), infants (1 month to age 1), toddlers (1-2 years), preschoolers (3-5 years), school age (6-12 years), adolescents (ages 13-17), early adult (ages 18-35), and middle adult (ages 36-65). S/he will participate in the development and implementation of programs for Women's & Children's Services as directed by Regional Director of Women's and Children's and the Clinical Nurse Manager for the FMC. The job duties listed are essential functions of the position. However, other duties may be assigned, and may also be considered essential functions of the position. The caregiver must be sufficiently fluent in the English language to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. The degree of fluency required will vary depending upon the nature of the position. Caregivers are expected to honor the Mission, Values, Vision and Promise and adhere to the Code of Conduct, policies and standards of their organization. For direct patient care roles: Performs and maintains currency of essential competencies as required by specific area of hire and populations served.
