Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Logistics Planner oversees the end-to-end planning and execution of production orders, from customer approval through production start. This role leads key supply chain functions - including order management, work preparation, and procurement-to ensure optimal plant performance in safety, service, quality, cost, and productivity. The manager also develops and implements supply chain policies, systems, and training to support continuous improvement.

What does a Logistics Planner do?

Planning Responsibilities

  • Reviews and prioritizes approved production orders; communicates schedules to production teams.
  • Analyzes backlog to optimize product mix and maximize runtime efficiency.
  • Assigns customer target dates, production lead times, and start dates.
  • Identifies and coordinates outsourced components and processes.
  • Monitors and communicates production plan progress; escalates delays as needed.
  • Maintains and updates planning tools as needed
  • Analyzes and adjusts schedules to address delays and meet deadlines.
  • Provides documentation and updates to stakeholders on changes or issues. Escalates complex issues to manager for resolution.
  • Enters and updates complaints/claims in schedule as required.
  • Ensures that each order entered into the system is priced correctly for the customer. If there is a discrepancy, follows up and resolves the problem in a timely manner.
  • Resolves complaints expeditiously.
  • Provides on time delivery reports weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly to Parallel and its parent company Armstrong - more frequently if needed.
  • Attends all production meetings.
  • Maintains a high level of customer focus in producing quality products and services that do not sacrifice the safety of others, one's self, nor the environment.

Procurement Responsibilities

  • Performs the acquisition of materials and services needed for production, offices, and facilities for Parallel AP.
  • Prepares quotes, selects vendors, and negotiates purchase order prices, terms, and delivery.
  • Represents Parallel AP in negotiating strategies and close deals with optimal terms with specific pricing and formulating policies with suppliers and vendors.
  • Works closely with Sales Department, Project managers and Plant Production ensuring project material requirements are fulfilled.
  • Communicates material status to meet production schedule and customer timelines.
  • Conveys understanding of internal and external customers' needs and takes actions to ensure that such needs are met and sustained throughout the projects' cycle.
  • Documents quality issues and resolves claims with vendors in a timely manner to sustain service.
  • Plans for purchases with a focus on quality, building long-term supplier relationships.
  • Administers and maintains supply chain document management solutions both internally and between Parallel and suppliers.
  • Tracks and reports key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness through Key Performance Indicators including vendor scorecards.
  • Creates, updates and maintains standard work process documentation.
  • Develops and maintains positive business relationships with suppliers' key personnel involved in or directly relevant to Parallel AP supply chain activities.
  • Reviews supply chain performance with suppliers against targets, benchmarks and service agreements. Develops, executes and monitors action plans to address under-performing segments of the supply chain.
  • Establishes collaborative relationships through the organization and with suppliers to work cooperatively to resolve issues and concerns of procurement.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED..
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain planning, production scheduling, or operations management
  • Experience with ERP systems and production planning tools
  • 5+ years of experience in a make-to-order manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills and data analysis capabilities. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other operating systems.

  • Clear and effective communicator across departments, including production, purchasing, and engineering.
  • Skilled in identifying bottlenecks and implementing timely solutions to keep production on track.
  • Works well with cross-functional teams and external partners (e.g., third-party certifiers).
  • Comfortable managing shifting priorities and adjusting plans in a dynamic production environment.
  • Ensures accuracy in scheduling, documentation, and order specifications.
  • Motivates and guides teams toward operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Balances multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, operations management, or a related field.
  • Contract negotiation experience.
