Who is Saint Louis University? Founded in 1818, Saint Louis University is one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious Catholic universities. SLU, which also has a campus in Madrid, Spain, is recognized for world-class academics, life-changing research, compassionate health care, and a strong commitment to faith and service.

Postdoctoral Scholar (Complex Photonics and Wave Control)

Opportunity for a postdoctoral scholar is available in Dr. Hasan Ylmaz's research group in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Saint Louis University for researchers with strong backgrounds in complex photonics, wave physics, mesoscopic physics, or related fields.

The successful candidate will primarily carry out experimental research on complex photonics, wave control, and light transport in systems such as multiple-scattering media and multimode fibers. The position involves developing advanced optical experiments, conducting numerical simulations, and engaging closely with theoretical aspects of wave physics. Current research directions include wavefront shaping, transmission eigenchannels, mesoscopic correlations, spatiotemporal wave control, and the fundamental limits of light manipulation in complex systems. The candidate is expected to work closely with theoretical and experimental collaborators and supervise and mentor graduate students.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Optical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Proven track record in one or more of the fields mentioned above.
  • Strong experimental background in optics or wave physics.
  • Strong interest in theoretical aspects of wave propagation and complex systems.
  • Experience with optical experiments, numerical simulations, or computational modeling.
  • Programming and simulation skills in MATLAB, Python, COMSOL, Lumerical, or similar platforms are highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Wavefront shaping and spatial light modulator systems
  • Multimode fiber optics
  • Mesoscopic physics and statistical optics
  • Interferometric measurements
  • Optical system design and instrumentation

Term/Availability: This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with a strong possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.

Job Classification: Postdoctoral Researcher

Job Type: Full-time

Applicants should submit a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and

contact information for two references, preferably including the Ph.D. advisor.
