Phlebotomist II Location: Silver Spring, MD 20902 Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM Job Type: Full-Time, 3-Month Contract | Potential Temp-to-Hire Work Setting: Primary Care / Physician Office Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to join our healthcare team in Silver Spring, MD. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of recent phlebotomy experience, strong patient-facing/customer service skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced physician office. This position involves primarily blood collection, specimen processing, order entry, and patient service. The successful candidate should be comfortable performing venipunctures independently, including difficult draws, while maintaining accuracy and specimen integrity. Key Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and blood draws on teenage, adult, and geriatric patients Perform approximately 20 blood draws on busy days Use both straight needles and butterfly needles Comfortably perform difficult/hard sticks Explain the blood collection process clearly and courteously to patients Verify physician orders and match requisitions with appropriate specimens Properly label, centrifuge, split, freeze, package, and prepare specimens for transport Enter and update patient information and physician orders accurately Process laboratory orders and maintain accurate documentation Monitor specimen integrity and follow established collection/handling procedures Maintain appropriate inventory and order laboratory supplies as needed Follow OSHA, safety, infection-control, and laboratory procedures Answer telephone calls and assist patients with laboratory-related inquiries Maintain a professional and patient-focused environment Work independently while maintaining productivity and accuracy Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Minimum 2 years of phlebotomy experience preferred At least 6 months of recent hands-on venipuncture experience required Strong experience with blood collection and specimen processing Comfortable performing venipuncture independently Ability to perform difficult draws Strong customer service and communication skills Ability to work efficiently in a busy patient-care environment Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Strong attention to detail and accuracy Reliable attendance and punctuality Phlebotomy certification is not required for this position, although it is a plus. Preferred Experience Candidates with experience in the following settings are encouraged to apply: Physician offices Primary care Patient Service Centers Outpatient laboratories Hospital laboratories Diagnostic laboratories Clinical laboratories Work Environment Onsite in Silver Spring, MD Primarily working independently Most of the shift will be spent standing Patient population includes teenagers, adults, and geriatric patients Smaller primary-care/physician-office setting Approximately 20 draws on busy days Must be comfortable working independently and managing workflow efficiently Training The first two weeks will consist of training before transitioning to the assigned worksite. | |
