The Woodruff School graduates high caliber mechanical engineers for a demanding profession. Mechanical engineers are the foundation of today's technological world. To do so, we provide enhanced facilities and laboratories to create the best learning environment and we attract outstanding faculty and students. In this period of rapid technological change, the Woodruff School produces mechanical engineers who are vital to our future. With approximately 3,000 students,100 faculty members, and 70 staff members, we are one of the largest mechanical engineering programs in the country. We are consistently ranked as one of the top 10 mechanical engineering programs in the U.S. at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and continuously innovate to keep our school at the forefront of engineering education. Our size and resources allow us to offer a diversity of educational and research opportunities that enable us to produce highly sought after engineering professionals.

Job Summary

We invite applications for research faculty positions as Senior Research Engineer. The primary research responsibilities of the faculty shall be program management and execution of large cutting edge university problem-driven research. The initial assignment for this position will be under the supervision of Prof. Nazanin Bassiri-Gharb. This position is 100% supported by the sponsored funds.

The Advanced Research Institute (ARI) is focused on moving the DECIMAL point, advancing solutions that deliver order of magnitude change to the status quo. We translate fundamental knowledge into deployable technologies across Defense, Energy, Climate, Intelligence, Medicine, Agriculture, and Life, with an emphasis on implementation beyond the lab and in service of society. We engage in cutting-edge problem-driven research that improves the human condition.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include:

Creating proposals, work scopes, and applying for federal, industry, and philanthropic projects.

Managing and executing the work scope of active federal agency, industry, and philanthropic projects, including interfacing with program managers and collaborators, creating and delivering high-quality presentations and reports.

Mentoring undergraduate researchers, graduate student researchers, and postdocs.

Working with professors across Georgia Tech in delivering on the work scopes.

Authoring progress reports, and final deliverables for sponsored projects.

Managing finances and budget for work scopes.

Fostering research collaborations within and external to Georgia Tech.

Required Qualifications

A Masters degree in Engineering or related fields and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or

A Masters degree in Engineering or related fields and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of Bachelor's degree, or

A Doctoral degree and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree.

Preferred Qualifications

A Doctoral degree in science/engineering or related field, and four (4) years of relevant research experience after completion of a bachelor's degree.

Professional experience equivalent to a higher education degree is preferred for a Research Associate title.

Experience in integrated mechanical or thermal-fluid systems and fluid mechanics is preferred, including hands-on experience designing, fabricating, instrumenting, and testing pumps, pressurized flow systems, and field-deployable prototypes. Experience with energy systems, wastewater or sludge-handling equipment, high-pressure positive-displacement pump and energy-recovery systems, and bench-to-field system integration is also a plus.
