As a Gas Distribution Dispatcher I, you will play a vital role in coordinating field operations, responding to customer needs, and supporting the safe and efficient delivery of natural gas service. What You Will Do:
  • Coordinate and dispatch service and work orders to field personnel, ensuring timely response to operational and customer needs.

  • Receive, prioritize, and respond to emergency situations including gas leaks, damaged gas lines, fires, explosions, and other urgent incidents.

  • Maintain ongoing communication between customers, field employees, supervisors, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.

  • Monitor daily workloads and work closely with field leadership to balance resources, schedule work activities, and support operational priorities.

  • Create, update, and maintain accurate dispatch records, reports, logs, and on-call schedules.

  • Escalate critical events and notify management and operations teams of incidents requiring immediate attention.

  • Support compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements while delivering exceptional customer service.

Who You Are:
  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 1 to 2 years of related work experience.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Ability to remain calm, make sound decisions, and respond effectively in emergency or high-pressure situations.

  • Basic mathematical skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to effectively hear and respond to telephone and radio communications.

  • Ability to work with computer systems and monitor information at close visual range for extended periods.

Preferred:
  • Experience in dispatching, customer service, utility operations, or a call center environment.

  • Experience working with two-way radio systems or dispatch technology.

  • Typing proficiency of approximately 25 words per minute or greater.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.

Working Conditions:
  • This position supports a 24/7/365 operation and requires working assigned shifts, including days, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

  • Shift assignments are determined through an annual shift bid process and may change from year to year.

  • Participation in a dispatcher on-call standby rotation is required.

  • During the approximately 12-week training period, employees are expected to work onsite five days per week, with varying shift schedules.

  • Following successful completion of training, employees may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, currently consisting of three days in the office and two days working remotely.

  • Primarily office-based role requiring extended periods of sitting and continuous computer and telephone use.

  • Occasional travel may be required, up to 25%.

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, light - moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements (Both Field & Office) include but are not limited to:

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.

Salary:
  • Ranges from $42,200 - $49,500 USD for US locations based upon candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity.

  • Applicable compensation policies and guidelines apply to internal candidates.
