Job Summary

Join a nationally recognized cardiovascular team and play a vital role in delivering exceptional care to patients with complex heart conditions. As an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) on our inpatient cardiology service, you will work alongside leading cardiologists and hospitalists to provide comprehensive care for patients with advanced heart failure, valvular heart disease, and structural heart conditions requiring specialized interventions.

This position is expanding to include dedicated weekend coverage, creating an exciting opportunity for an APP seeking a challenging and rewarding role within a collaborative academic medical center environment.

About the Role

The APP serves as the primary responding clinician for patients admitted to Ellison 11, a specialized inpatient cardiology unit. Working in close partnership with attending cardiologists and cardiology hospitalists, the APP will provide day-to-day clinical management of patients with complex cardiovascular conditions and support the care of patients undergoing advanced structural heart procedures, including:

-Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
-MitraClip procedures
-Transcatheter tricuspid valve repair and intervention

This role offers significant autonomy while maintaining strong physician collaboration and multidisciplinary team support.

Key Responsibilities
-Serve as the primary clinical responding provider for inpatient cardiology patients.
-Perform comprehensive patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations.
-Develop, implement, and adjust treatment plans in collaboration with cardiologists and hospitalists.
-Order and interpret laboratory studies, diagnostic testing, imaging, and procedures.
-Prescribe and manage medications in accordance with established guidelines and regulatory requirements.
-Coordinate specialty consultations, referrals, and procedural care.
-Monitor patient progress and respond to changes in clinical status.
-Facilitate care transitions, discharge planning, and patient/family education.
-Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently within the electronic medical record.
-Collaborate closely with nursing staff, case managers, pharmacists, and
consulting services to optimize patient outcomes.

Qualifications

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.

Essential Functions
-Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations
-Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
