The Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (IR)uses state-of-the-art minimally invasive techniques and imaging-guidance to replace conventional surgery. IR radiologists are involved in the treatment of patients as well as the diagnosis of disease, providing a full array of patient care for the chest, abdomen, and extremities. Services include diagnostic arteriography, renal and peripheral vascular interventions, biliary, thoracic and abdominal stent grafts, venous access procedures, and embolization cancer therapies, to name a few. More than 8,000 cases are performed yearly. The IR Clinic provides patient evaluations and referral follow-ups, with special emphasis on regional therapy of liver malignancies, uterine fibroid embolization, and varicose vein treatment. With the use of catheters, various x-ray, and imaging techniques using CT, MRI, and Ultrasound scanner machines, IR offers an alternative to surgical treatment and can eliminate the need for hospitalization in certain cases. In 2019 we moved into a new space next to the operating room with state-of-the-art equipment that includes 8 procedure rooms with CT available in two angiography suites and cone-beam CT available in 5 more suites. We also have access to IVUS, ICE, and CE-US for all the latest in intra-procedural diagnostic imaging. Our division is actively engaged in basic and translational research as well as clinical trial research-all designed to advance innovations in minimally invasive, image-guided therapies and further scientific knowledge in the field. Many of our faculty members are nationally and internationally acknowledged as experts in their subspecialty areas of practice, having made widely recognized contributions to clinical care, the education of trainees, and innovative imaging research. Our interprofessional team includes a collaborative group of physicians, APPs, nurses, radiology technicians and allied health professionals who share a deep commitment to health equity, innovation, education, and quality improvement. Shifts: Weekday, weekend coverage to meet patient and staffing needs Preferred qualifications: Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Experience: Strong preference for experience in surgical or image-guided procedural settings, with background in surgery, emergency medicine, critical care, or internal medicine. Strong communication and care coordination skills; prior experience in quality improvement or population health initiatives; and a passion for interprofessional collaboration and health advocacy. Administration Partners with site Medical Director and clinic leadership to optimize patient flow, operational efficiency, and access to care. Supports implementation of enhanced care delivery models designed to improve population health outcomes and patient satisfaction. Participates in performance improvement, data reporting, and outcomes tracking for UVA Radiology and Medical Imaging metrics. Ensures accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and adherence to UVA Health documentation and compliance standards. Professional Demonstrates professionalism through effective communication, teamwork, and commitment to UVA Health's mission and values. Participates in interprofessional collaboration with physicians, nurses, care coordinators, and learners to ensure seamless, team-based care. Engages in continuous professional development and educational activities, including teaching and mentoring opportunities within the Division. Promotes health equity and inclusion in all aspects of care delivery. Clinical Performs designated Interventional Radiology procedures using specified imaging including fluoroscopy, CT, and ultrasound guidance with and without moderate sedation Initiates appropriate emergency care Functions as a first or second assistant in the interventional radiology suite in performing procedures Outpatient pre-procedure evaluation and assists with preparation of patients for procedures performed in the interventional radiology suite by obtaining consents, skin preparation and administration of local anesthesia. Provides routine medical management of inpatient care whenever necessary by evaluating and managing patients: ordering diagnostic tests, labs x-ray studies, medications (within the scope of the APP license), activity orders, physical therapy orders, discharge planning, and nutrition. Completes individual or joins group rounds on all pertinent patients related to the service Provides timely and complete communication to referring and primary care physicians. Communication of treatment plans with Interventional Radiology team Provides communication to patient families. Serves as a resource person in the department and throughout the hospital for interventional radiology procedures. Completes appropriate documentation on all evaluations and services rendered in the electronic medical record, inclusive of informed consents. Obtains appropriate consultation from specialty services Provides in-person and/or virtual clinic coverage, including patient evaluation, management, and follow-up care Responsible for the evaluation and management of patients across all age groups, from pediatric through geriatric Leadership Acts as a role model to colleagues, interdisciplinary team members, the institution and to the community Demonstrates respect to all within the institution and community Demonstrates leadership abilities in the development, mentorship and empowerment of others within the healthcare community Assumes leadership role in the development of the Advanced Practice Role to patients, families, other healthcare professionals and to the community Coordinates meeting applicable leadership standards for all disciplines in collaboration with physician(s) and team members Meets leadership competency standards MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree. Experience: Department and unit specific. Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The pay range for this role is $124,845.00 - $178,089.60 annually.
