Key Responsibilities



  • Perform engineering design, calculations, estimates, studies, and coordination for distribution facilities installations.
  • Analyze load, pressure requirements, future growth, and other variables during the design process to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Oversee the layout, sizing, and specification of pipeline equipment, including economic justifications, and provide indirect supervision to project teams.
  • Create precise engineering drawings and effectively communicate design details to field personnel and contractors.
  • Conduct comprehensive distribution system pressure and cathodic protection studies.
  • Cultivate and maintain external contacts to ensure the availability of materials, supplies, and information, and facilitate information exchange with external sources, agencies, and local utilities regarding line locations and planned projects.
  • Prepare economic justifications, including concise, factual, and conclusive statements of purpose, merits, and necessity for proposed projects, to assist management in evaluating capital investments and budget items.
  • Review completed work orders and cost data to assure conformance with plans and acceptability of construction charges, updating estimated unit prices as needed.
  • Assist in the evaluation of system operations and troubleshoot problems to maintain efficiency and reliability.


Qualifications

Must-Have Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, or other approved engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in utility design or related project construction design.
  • Proficiency with PC software, including word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use mainframe computer and PC software, including SAP EDS & FIN modules, Microstation, Stoner, and Arc Info.
  • Extensive knowledge of company policies and procedures and DOT CFR 192 regulations.
  • Valid state driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.

Physical Requirements



  • Ability to exert in excess of 30 pounds of force occasionally and in excess of 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to view a computer terminal for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and drive for multiple hour trips.


Working Conditions



  • Ability to work indoors in a normal office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, hot, dirty, and/or greasy equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.
  • Travel as necessary to off-site locations, with occasional overnight stays required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high daily pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends), as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
