As an Operating Room Technician, you will play an essential role in preparing the operating room, assisting surgeons and nursing staff during procedures, and helping ensure every patient receives safe, efficient, and compassionate surgical care. A typical day for an Operating Room Technician may include:
- Preparing operating rooms for surgical procedures by acquiring, preparing, and organizing the specific equipment, instruments, and sterile supplies required for each individual case.
- Assisting the surgical team by providing skilled scrub support throughout a variety of routine and complex surgical procedures.
- Anticipating team needs and responding efficiently to maintain a smooth, safe, and effective operative environment.
- Adhering strictly to infection control practices, including modern aseptic techniques, universal and isolation precautions, proper OR surgical attire, and matching CDC isolation guidelines.
- Enforcing safety regulations through mandatory handwashing policies and the appropriate, diligent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Handling and maintaining instrumentation with accuracy, which includes the proper cleaning, disinfecting, tracking, and organization of surgical equipment and restocking essential linens.
- Assisting with patient care before, during, and after surgery, applying a strong knowledge of safe patient positioning and body mechanics.
- Providing training and orientation to current staff and new personnel for both routine and complex surgical cases, actively assisting in training programs for incoming OR techs.
- Maintaining clinical competency by attending departmental in-service education and participating in continuous learning initiatives.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the ORT Director while maintaining a professional attitude and strict adherence to the departmental code of conduct.

Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Successful completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician training program.
- Certifications: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Certification through the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) is strongly preferred.
- Experience: Prior operational experience as an OR Technician is preferred, though a strong foundational training background will be considered.
- Core Competencies: Demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique, CDC guidelines, manual dexterity, professional conduct standards, and the ability to work under pressure alongside a diverse medical team.
