Watch Engineer

Summary

A Watch Engineer operates on a 4 week on and 2 week off rotating swing shift and stands watch 12 hours a day for two weeks on day watch with a 24 hour break at the end of the two week period then shifting to night watch for two weeks before going on time off for two weeks on a normal operating schedule while the Dredge is operation. Schedules vary when the Dredge is down for maintenance or in tow. Employee shall be responsible for their own transportation and housing and will receive a daily subsistence for every day worked on top of their hourly wage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Works alongside the Chief Engineer in the operation maintenance and repair of equipment, engines, pumps
• Maintain logs of the dredge's equipment by monitoring various computer devices, meters, gauges, and valves
• Performs routine tasks such as adding oil to engines, fueling engines, hooking up hoses, cleaning up, and assisting with fuel transfer operations
• Effectively and clearly communicates to the Chief Engineer, the correct parts necessary for a repair or ongoing maintenance
• Hold a watch and delegate responsibilities to oilers
• Starts engines , generators and pumps as needed to operate the dredge
• Makes periodic checks and visually inspects equipment such as: engines, motors, pumps, batteries, gauges and valves
• Service engines during routine scheduled maintenance such as changing lube oil and filters, Taking oil samples, changing hydraulic filters etc.
• Monitors water pressure and fuel pressure and temperatures, Cleans strainers , changes filters as needed to operate the dredge
• Maintain standards of safety and comply with Company's Health, Safety & Environment Management System requirements.
• Take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others in the workplace.
• Follow and maintain Company standards of Quality in accordance with Company Quality System requirements
• Ensures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct. Maintain a high standard of ethical behavior, encourages ethical behavior in others, supports ethical decisions and actively seeks appropriate resolution to potential ethical conflicts.
• Supervises oiler while on watch
• Ensures adherence to all applicable health, safety and environmental company policies.
• Responsible for writing / participating in work plans and JSA's for the safe execution of all work projects.
• Responsible for assuring those skill sets of personnel under their direction align to the task at hand.
• Extensive travel will be required for this position.

Qualifications

• Must be organized to efficiently maintain the engine room(s) and must also be able to work safely under pressure and within time constraints in the event of an emergency.
• Able to communicate well as part of a small team, and work cooperatively with other colleagues.
• Must be able to travel and work a rotating schedule
• Valid drivers license and acceptable driving per Manson's policies and procedures required
• USCG Tankerman Endorsement is preferred but not required
• Previous dredging experience not required
• Previous marine or offshore experience a plus not required
• Plant machinery or refinery experience a plus not required

Physical Demands
Position is primarily a field position, and will require travel, including visits and monitoring of construction job sites. Employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed shoes, respirators, etc. The employee is required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or up to 50 pounds. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. The employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time.
