What to Expect
Tesla's Energy Supply Chain group is looking for a highly motivated individual to manage New Product Introduction (NPI) procurement and build planning during Engineering phases for new hardware design programs across Energy: Residential and Industrial Storage, and DC and AC Charging. This is a cross-functional role that requires coordination between many distinct groups within and outside of Tesla.
You will interface with engineering program management, design engineering, manufacturing engineering, compliance, system test, reliability, supply chain and operations to execute and track builds for various programs. Prioritize, orchestrate and arrange builds and any reworks needed, and distribute hardware to the various validation teams.
You will be immersed in early NPI design phases and work closely with EPMs and other stakeholders on sample allocation and ensure the parts purchasing aligns with the sample allocation plan. You will also build and leverage strong working relationships with cross-functional partners in engineering and other teams, to ensure optimal sequencing of builds considering material arrival and validation priorities. This role will report to the Manager, NPI Buyer - Planning and be based out of Palo Alto CA.
What You'll Do
- Deliver clear-to-build status, material coverage, run-out reports, and other analyses as needed to plan engineering builds
- Build and maintain operational partnerships with assigned suppliers.Act as the primary interface with suppliers on delivery status, issues, and resolution.Escalate to commercial or technical partners when required (procurement, accounts payable, quality, engineering, etc.)
- Drive commercial cost negotiations with suppliers to ensure Tesla receives the best possible pricing and leverage cost models and analysis of current market conditions
- Monitor current market conditions and technology roadmaps to proactively identify and address any supply challenges and to determine future business opportunities
- Document component cost and work with Finance to track BOM cost in different program phases What You'll Bring
- Experience in sourcing, manufacturing, finance, or supply chain management, with advanced proficiency in MS Excel required
- Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP with a solid understanding of discrete manufacturing, bills of material, product lifecycle management, procure to pay processes, and supply chain operations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to evaluate and analyze data to enable operational decision-making or present clear recommendations to leadership
- Passionate and high energy, with the diplomacy and cooperative style necessary to positively influence others, both inside and outside of Tesla. Ability to write, speak and present effectively and persuasively
- Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic, fast paced environment.Flexibility and adaptability are key
What You'll Bring
- At least 2 years' experience in sourcing, manufacturing, finance, or supply chain management
- Knowledge of MRP/ERP with a solid understanding of discrete manufacturing, bills of material, product lifecycle management, procure to pay processes and supply chain operations
- Demonstrated experience in the management of engineering builds for mass produced products required
- Basic understanding of the design and validation cycle
- Demonstrated experience creating, maintaining and communicating schedules
- Demonstrated understanding of multilevel Bill of Material hierarchy, including hardware and software components
- Demonstrated understanding of product release cycle as it relates to the creation and change management of parts and BOM structures
- Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills
- Skills with common workplace software (word processor, spreadsheet, presentation software etc.) with the ability to create and maintain metrics
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, production, and supply chain personnel

Expected Compensation
$72,000 - $246,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
