Job Overview - Lab Technician (Foam Manufacturing)

The Lab Technician is responsible for supporting laboratory operations within a foam manufacturing environment by performing material testing, quality control analyses, and product evaluations in accordance with established procedures. This role ensures that foam products meet required specifications for performance, safety, and consistency.

Key responsibilities include preparing and testing foam samples, measuring physical and chemical properties (such as density, compression set, PPI), recording and analyzing data, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This position plays a critical role in maintaining product quality and supporting continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.

Site Overview:Our Fort Wayne facility is a union manufacturing plant with approximately 155 employees operating on three shifts. The site is a pouring and specialized post processing operation. Capabilities include pouring, fabricating, felting, reticulation (2 styles) and block. As a key location within FXI's manufacturing network, the Fort Wayne plant is known for its strong focus on quality, safety, and operational excellence. Team members work in a collaborative, supportive environment where continuous improvement and innovation play a central role.

Key Responsibilities:



  • The incumbent technician will be an integral part of manufacturing processes working directly with associates and leads in a work cell.
  • They will prepare all required FXI and customer documentation to provide visibility of product status.
  • Perform daily foam tests for the Lab.
  • Must be able to cut detailed test samples, perform data entry, issue certification of compliance to customers.
  • Must be able to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including weekends.
  • Effectively communicate with plant associates and Managers.
  • Compliance with all plant rules
  • Follow appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Work Instructions (WI) and safety procedures
  • Interface with Suppliers to address defective material.
  • SAP; part number search, create inspection plan & lot, material hold & release transactions.
  • Review and disposition of nonconforming products.
  • Duties as assigned by Quality Manager.


Skills / Qualifications:



  • Reading comprehension skills to understand written communication.
  • Must work with high voltages and around moving equipment.
  • Lift 60 lbs. from floor, bend, twist, climb, and crawl and able to work at heights.
  • Attention to details and good math skills required.
  • Must have minimum 4 years' experience as a maintenance millwright and electrician.
  • Two-year technical degree is preferred.
