Job Summary
Yarde Metals is seeking a Plant Engineer to support and progressively lead capital equipment, warehouse, facility, infrastructure, maintenance, and operational improvement projects across multiple service center locations. This growth-oriented role provides hands-on experience in project planning, engineering coordination, contractor management, and project execution while developing technical, operational, and project management expertise. As experience grows, the successful candidate will assume increasing responsibility for independently managing projects from concept and budgeting through installation, commissioning, and completion.
Job Responsibilities
Project Management
- Assist in planning, budgeting, coordinating, and executing capital equipment, facility, warehouse, maintenance, and operational improvement projects from concept through commissioning and closeout.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, bid evaluations, and management recommendations.
- Coordinate activities among operations, maintenance, safety, IT, finance, contractors, engineers, and equipment manufacturers while tracking project milestones, deliverables, and action items.
- Progressively assume responsibility for independently managing assigned projects.
Projects May Include
- Production equipment installations and relocations
- Overhead cranes and material handling systems
- Warehouse layout and storage optimization
- Cantilever rack and storage system projects
- Building and facility improvements
- Electrical and utility infrastructure upgrades
- Maintenance and reliability initiatives
- Multi-site capital improvement projects
Engineering, Field & Contractor Support
- Review drawings, equipment layouts, specifications, and other technical documentation.
- Conduct field surveys and evaluate equipment placement, material flow, warehouse layouts, infrastructure requirements, and existing site conditions.
- Coordinate with internal and external engineering, contractor, and vendor resources to obtain drawings, specifications, permits, and approvals
- Participate in site surveys, contractor meetings, equipment installations, start-ups, and commissioning activities.
- Monitor project progress, assist in resolving schedule, scope, safety, and operational issues, and verify completed work against approved plans and project requirements.
- Conduct punch-list reviews and support compliance with contractor management and safety requirements.
Project Documentation & Communication
- Maintain project documentation, including drawings, schedules, proposals, contracts, meeting notes, photographs, and closeout records.
- Prepare project updates, status reports, cost analyses, scopes of work, and management presentations.
- Communicate project progress, issues, recommendations, and key decisions to stakeholders.
Requirements & Qualifications
This position is well suited for an early-career engineer, construction management graduate, industrial technology professional, or experienced manufacturing employee seeking to develop a long-term career in project management.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, Facilities Management, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- 2-3 years of experience in facilities management, or a related technical field preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing, maintenance, construction, engineering, industrial operations, or project coordination preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, equipment layouts, and specifications.
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software preferred.
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in industrial and warehouse environments.
Travel Requirements
Travel to company facilities, contractors, equipment suppliers, engineering firms, and project locations is required.
Occasional overnight travel and multi-day onsite participation may be necessary during equipment installations, startup, and commissioning activities.
