Purpose of Position:

Del Monte Foods is the Foods Division of Fresh Del Monte, a global grower, producer and marketer of fresh, value-added, and shelf-stable produce. Del Monte Foods has a powerful portfolio of brands, including the iconic Del Monte, Contadina and S&W. We are currently seeking a Insights & Analytics Manager.

The Seamer Technician is responsible for performing routine inspection, measurement, and evaluation of can seams to verify package integrity and ensure finished product meets established food safety, quality, and manufacturing specifications. This position collects production samples, performs visual seam inspections and destructive seam tear-downs, measures critical seam characteristics, calculates required values, documents results, and promptly communicates deviations to Production and Quality personnel.

The Seamer Technician works closely with Production, Quality Assurance, and other plant personnel to identify seam-related concerns and support timely corrective action. Performance is measured by the accuracy and timeliness of seam evaluations and documentation, adherence to established sampling and testing procedures, and compliance with food safety, quality, and workplace safety requirements.

Accountabilities:

Seam Inspection & Testing

  • Collect representative can samples from assigned production lines at established frequencies.
  • Perform visual inspections of can seams and overall container integrity.
  • Prepare cans for destructive seam evaluation using approved tools and procedures.
  • Perform complete seam tear-downs to evaluate critical seam characteristics.
  • Measure seam length, thickness, countersink, body hook, cover hook, and other required seam dimensions.
  • Calculate seam overlap and other required seam measurements.
  • Compare inspection and measurement results against established product and container specifications.
  • Verify measurements and calculations are complete and accurate before documenting results.
  • Perform additional package integrity or quality checks as trained and assigned.

Quality Monitoring & Response

  • Monitor seam inspection results for conditions that may indicate developing equipment, container, or process issues.
  • Immediately report measurements, calculations, or visual observations outside established specifications to Production and Quality leadership.
  • Clearly communicate seam-related concerns to appropriate personnel to support timely investigation and corrective action.
  • Support additional sampling or seam evaluations following adjustments, deviations, or other quality events as directed.
  • Assist Production and Quality personnel with determining whether subsequent seam checks meet established specifications.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable product quality and food safety requirements while performing seam evaluations.

Documentation & Data Integrity

  • Accurately document all seam inspection measurements, calculations, observations, and results.
  • Enter required seam inspection information into applicable computer systems.
  • Complete required paperwork, logs, and reports accurately and within established timelines.
  • Maintain accurate, neat, legible, and traceable quality records.
  • Verify documentation is complete before submitting or retaining records according to established procedures.
  • Communicate documentation discrepancies or unusual results to appropriate leadership.

Sampling & Quality Support

  • Follow established sampling frequencies, procedures, and testing requirements.
  • Handle production samples appropriately to prevent inaccurate or compromised test results.
  • Support additional quality checks and testing after receiving required training.
  • Assist Quality and Production personnel with product or packaging evaluations as needed.
  • Support investigations involving seam integrity or container-related quality concerns.
  • Assist with training other qualified employees in seam inspection and tear-down procedures when assigned.

Equipment, Tools & Work Area

  • Properly use seam inspection, measuring, and can tear-down equipment.
  • Handle cans, lids, measuring devices, and testing tools safely and according to established procedures.
  • Maintain seam inspection equipment and work areas in clean and orderly condition.
  • Identify damaged, malfunctioning, or inaccurate testing equipment and report concerns promptly.
  • Dispose of product, cans, lids, and testing materials according to established procedures.
  • Support general housekeeping and sanitation activities within assigned work areas.

Operational Support

  • Coordinate sampling activities with production operations to ensure required checks are completed without unnecessary disruption.
  • Communicate effectively with Production, Quality Assurance, and other plant personnel.
  • Assist production personnel with work activities as operational needs require.
  • Maintain flexibility to support changing production schedules, products, and assigned lines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Safety, Food Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, GMPs, food safety requirements, quality procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Use appropriate PPE, including required head, hearing, eye, hand, and foot protection.
  • Use appropriate hand protection when handling hot cans or performing destructive seam evaluations.
  • Follow established safe procedures when opening cans and performing seam tear-downs.
  • Maintain awareness of wet or slippery floors, forklift traffic, moving equipment, pinch points, and other manufacturing hazards.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout requirements when applicable.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and obstruction-free work areas.
  • Report injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions, quality concerns, and equipment issues promptly.

Minimum Skills Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic mathematical skills are necessary to perform measurements and calculations.
  • Basic computer and data-entry skills.
  • Ability to accurately perform detailed measurements and calculations.
  • Ability to follow established sampling, testing, food safety, and quality procedures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, neat, and legible records.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify measurements or conditions outside established specifications.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Production, Quality, and other plant personnel.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision after completion of required training.
  • Ability to work day or night schedules and extended production-season hours as required.
  • Previous manufacturing experience.
  • Previous food-manufacturing or quality-control experience.
  • Experience performing package, container, or seam inspections.
  • Experience using precision measurement or quality-testing equipment.
  • Experience entering quality inspection data into computerized systems.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant manufacturing experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
