(INTERNAL to the Department of Food Science and Technology) Beckley/Herzog Endowed Chair for Enduring Advancement in the Science of Food

The holder of the Beckley/Herzog Endowed Chair for Enduring Advancement in the Science of Food will be a tenured faculty member or Specialist in the Cooperation Extension (CE) at Associate or Full rank in the Department of Food Science and Technology.

The holder of the Chair will be someone who exemplifies excellence in the science of food. Funding will be used to advance excellence in the science of food through innovative teaching, research, outreach, and engagement activities within the Department of Food Science and Technology.

The chair is intended to address current and future challenges facing the food system, with particular emphasis on reducing food loss and waste, improving energy and water use efficiency throughout the food system, and advancing biomass utilization. The chair will support scholarship that contributes to a more sustainable, resilient, and efficient food system while strengthening connections among academic, industry, alumni, and public communities.

The Chair is for a five-year term appointment and may be renewable based on satisfactory review and at the discretion of the Dean.

Responsibilities of the Chair include:

* Teach a normal load for the department or provide extension teaching/programs in which the Chair Holder is appointed including student advising and mentoring.

* Provide innovation and leadership in research in the area of food systems particularly towards food loss and waste and improving energy and water use within the food systems.

* Engage in outreach activities specific to the designated intent by the donor including lectures, conferences, student research.

* Perform service to the appointee's home department and the broader community as expected for faculty at the same academic rank.

* Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole.

The Chair holder will submit an annual report on the use of the Fund including expenditures of the endowment income to the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences each academic year.

* Associate or Full Rank Professor or Specialist in CE in the Department of Food Science and Technology.

* Teach a normal load for the department or provide extension teaching/programs in which the Chair Holder is appointed including student advising and mentoring.

* Someone who exemplifies excellence in the science of food.

* Engage in outreach activities specific to the designated intent by the donor including lectures, conferences, student research.

* Perform service to the appointee's home department and the broader community as expected for faculty at the same academic rank.

* Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole.

As a condition of employment, the finalist will be required to disclose if they are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct.
