Chief Technology Officer

First Bank
United States, Missouri, St. Louis
Oct 06, 2026

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will lead the evolution of First Bank's enterprise technology strategy, capabilities, and operating model. This executive will play a central role in helping position the bank for its next phase of growth by modernizing core technology infrastructure, strengthening digital and data capabilities, improving execution discipline, and enabling a more scalable and client-centric organization.

Working closely with the executive leadership team, the CTO will own both the technology strategy and technology execution agenda for the bank. The role spans infrastructure, applications, digital capabilities, data and analytics, and enterprise technology governance, with responsibility for ensuring technology investments are aligned with the bank's broader strategic priorities.

The mandate is both strategic and execution-oriented: building the roadmap, prioritizing investments, strengthening and stabilizing the environment, and driving accountability and momentum across major technology initiatives. The CTO will serve as a strategic business partner to executive leadership, helping translate business priorities into a pragmatic and modern technology agenda that balances innovation, operational effectiveness, client impact, and long-term value creation.

This is a highly visible role for a leader who can drive clarity, execution discipline, and measurable progress within a complex environment. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a regulated financial services setting, partnering closely with business leaders, and making practical decisions that balance innovation, risk, client experience, and return on investment.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Set and communicate a clear long-term technology strategy aligned with the bank's business and client priorities.
  • Lead the modernization of the bank's technology environment, including architecture, infrastructure, applications, digital platforms, and data capabilities.
  • Partner with the executive team to define and execute a pragmatic roadmap for technology enabled growth, efficiency, and client experience improvement.
  • Evaluate build versus buy decisions and oversee the selection, implementation, and management of key vendors and service providers.
  • Bring discipline to prioritization, delivery, and performance management across a portfolio of technology initiatives and major programs.
  • Strengthen governance, operating rhythms, and accountability across technology and cross functional partners.
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI, automation, and advanced analytics in ways that are commercially relevant and operationally sound.
  • Ensure the technology function is positioned to support the bank's regulatory, security, resilience, and business continuity expectations.
  • Develop and lead a high performing technology team, creating a culture of urgency, collaboration, and ownership.
  • Serve as a trusted thought partner to the CEO and executive team on technology risk, opportunity, and investment decisions.
