THE POSITION

Are you a college student searching for an internship? Public School Employees' Retirement System, Bureau of Communications and Counseling (BOCC) has an exciting internship opportunity in Dauphin County. We are searching for a detail orientated intern to support the bureau with administrative tasks. This role provides hands on experience in an office environment focusing on essential data and standard business processes to keep our department running effectively. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports a variety of administrative and project tasks within the BOCC. The role helps ensure accurate communication, organized documentation, and smooth workflow for the Bureau. As a Retirement System Intern, you will perform the following duties:

  • Data Tasks: Reviewing documents to ensure accuracy and assist with data entry from forms
  • Documentation Updates: Maintain and revise materials used by the Bureau
  • Project Support: Assist with seasonal and ongoing projects within the office
  • Coordination: Help coordinate bureau schedules and appointments through Outlook Calendar and Microsoft Teams
  • Communication Assistance: Prepare correspondence for members and their representatives
  • Customer Service: Communicate clearly with staff and provide support as needed

Essential functions of this position include: proficiency with Microsoft products, ability to complete work assignments in a professional manner, ability to follow directions, ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally, and provide customer service.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This internship begins upon the date of hire and runs until graduation.
  • Work Schedule: Minimum of 10 to 15 hours per two week pay period during business hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00PM, Monday - Friday. Hours are flexible with school schedules, within these parameters.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • You must be enrolled in college full-time (carrying 12 or more undergraduate credits, or 9 or more graduate credits).
  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • You must possess professional skills such as effective communication, teamwork, time management, and computer literacy.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position is located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dauphin County. You must live within commuting distance to the Harrisburg office in Dauphin County.
  • You must be able to use Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
