Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose
The Department of Art, Media, Performance, and Design ( AMPD) operates instructional, production, performance, digital media, equipment, and support spaces across multiple campus facilities. The AMPD Media Technology & Facilities Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational readiness of the facilities and production infrastructure assigned to the position in the AMPD Facilities Responsibility Matrix (Annex A). The position reports directly to the AMPD Chair.
The Media Technology & Facilities Manager combines hands-on operational capability with coordination and administrative responsibility. The position manages the Equipment Room and associated student workers; maintains equipment and inventory systems; performs appropriate first-line troubleshooting, routine maintenance, setup, adjustment, and minor repairs; coordinates specialized service with University units and qualified outside providers; supports safe and reliable use of assigned instructional and production spaces; coordinates operational purchasing, software renewals, vendors, and approved contracts; and provides operational support for approved departmental events and projects.
The role is intentionally designed as an operational generalist rather than a specialist in every technical area represented within AMPD. The incumbent is expected to recognize the limits of their expertise, coordinate specialized assistance when necessary, and escalate policy, priority, significant financial, personnel, and strategic decisions to the Chair.
The position provides opportunities for training, professional development, and growth as provided by the University.

Reporting, Scope, and Decision Authority

  • Reports directly to the AMPD Chair. Faculty, staff, College offices, University units, and outside providers collaborate with the position but do not serve as parallel supervisors.
  • Primary and secondary facilities responsibilities are defined by the current AMPD Facilities Responsibility Matrix in Annex A. The position does not have primary oversight of every AMPD studio, lab, gallery, or instructional space.
  • Has day-to-day operational authority within established departmental priorities and University policy for routine matters such as equipment circulation, room readiness, maintenance coordination, student-worker assignments, safety implementation, routine supplies, and established workflows.
  • Significant expenditures, policy changes, substantial facility modifications, contractual commitments outside delegated authority, or unresolved competing program priorities require Chair and/or appropriate College/University approval.
  • Serves as AMPD's operational coordinator and first point of contact for facilities and production infrastructure within the assigned scope but does not replace specialized University units or licensed/specialized technical services.
