JOB TITLE: Production Planner and Expeditor

LOCATION: Capewell Aerial Systems - South Windsor, CT

DEPARTMENT: Supply Chain

POSITION SUMMARY: Plan, prioritize, and coordinate the movement of work, materials, and production documentation to support daily and weekly schedules. Acting as a central point of coordination between Sales, Production, and Purchasing, this position maintains current visibility into material availability, supplier commitments, and component shortages. The Production Planner and Expeditor reviews open backlog, MRP, supplier deliveries, and production status; and follows up on expected arrival dates and delays; and works with internal teams to address constraints so production targets and customer delivery commitments can be achieved.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Work closely with Production to monitor and maintain production schedules and priorities based on customer demand, capacity, material availability, production status, and supplier delivery information.
  • Serve as a key link between Sales, Production, and Purchasing by monitoring material availability, supplier commitments, component shortages, and other constraints that may affect the production schedule.
  • Work with Purchasing and suppliers to resolve shortages, expedite materials and outside processing, and confirm that material requirements support production priorities.
  • Interact regularly with production floor management and internal support teams to resolve issues and achieve daily production requirements.
  • Review MRP, inventory levels, open work orders, routings, lead times, and demand signals; release, reschedule, or recommend changes to work orders as required.
  • Analyze and prepare production documents, including work instructions, travelers, and related documentation, to support timely release and execution of work.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of assigned backlog, work-in-process, production status, and material availability to identify potential impacts to production and customer delivery.
  • Update scheduled commit dates and work-order status in the ERP system based on current material availability, production progress, capacity, and supplier delivery information; communicate relevant changes to Sales and other stakeholders.
  • Assess the feasibility of expedite requests, coordinate recovery actions with the appropriate teams, and provide timely status updates.
  • Escalate significant risks and recommend recovery actions.
  • Participate in production meetings and provide clear updates on order status, constraints, priorities, commitments, and corrective actions.
  • Support inventory accuracy by coordinating with the stockroom and Inventory Control and investigating discrepancies that affect production.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide responsive internal customer service that supports Company objectives.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area and work cooperatively with other employees to meet department and company goals.
  • Use required personal protective equipment on the shop floor, including safety glasses and composite-toe safety shoes.



OTHER DUTIES: Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors or management to support departmental and organizational objectives.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in production planning, scheduling, materials, expediting, or supply chain.
  • Proficiency using Visual ERP or a similar manufacturing ERP system and Microsoft Office products
  • Working knowledge of MRP, production scheduling, material requirements, inventory control, capacity constraints, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Ability to interpret bills of material, routings, lead times, work orders, travelers, and related production documentation.
  • High sense of urgency and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong organizational, written, verbal, and customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage time, multitask, prioritize competing requirements, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to use data, logic, and sound reasoning to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Comfortable working in a role that requires regular interaction with both production-floor and office-based teams.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management System requirements, including AS9100 and ISO 9001.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position operates in office, stockroom, and manufacturing environments and requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements may include:



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling documents, and using office equipment.
  • Regular standing and walking through production and stockroom areas, with occasional bending and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds as needed.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues, suppliers, and other stakeholders.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • Position will work primarily in an office environment with a low noise level but may occasionally have exposure to the production floor with moderate to excessive noise.
  • This is a full-time, onsite position.
  • The work schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday 7:30AM - 5:00PM and every other Friday 7:30AM - 4:00PM with a 30-minute lunch break.



The hiring range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
