Within this mission, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is devoted to the comprehensive healthcare of women, often serving as a patient's primary and sometimes sole source of medical care. The Division of General Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Midwifery provides full-spectrum care, including the management of normal and high-risk pregnancies, childbirth, and comprehensive gynecologic services encompassing preventive, medical, and surgical care.
This is a Business Services Coordinator position within the
UNC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of General Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Midwifery. The Division includes 27 faculty physicians, 8 Advanced Practice Providers, 2 clinical fellows, 20 midwives, and 5 administrative staff, supporting care delivery across 17 clinical locations, including hospital-based and community sites such as Weaver Crossing, Panther Creek,
HMOB, Chatham County, and the NC Women's Prison. Delivering high-quality obstetrical and gynecological care requires strong coordination between clinical and administrative teams. This Business Services Coordinator role is integral to that effort, serving as a central liaison across faculty, providers, administrators, staff, learners, and external partners, ensuring effective communication, operational continuity, and exceptional patient-centered service.
This position serves a critical operational role requiring advanced administrative, financial, and business coordination expertise. The position independently coordinates a variety of administrative, financial, and operational activities, applying and interpreting established University and departmental policies and procedures to resolve routine and moderately complex operational issues, determine appropriate next steps, and ensure seamless departmental operations.
The Business Services Coordinator position serves as a central business operations resource for assigned business and operational processes, supporting clinical, academic, and operational leadership. This role is essential to maintaining continuity, compliance, and efficiency across departmental functions, making it imperative to recruit and retain a highly skilled, experienced professional capable of managing complex responsibilities in a dynamic academic medical environment. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
| Management Preferences |
- The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience working in a complex academic or healthcare environment, with particular strength in managing provider schedules and coordinating high-volume, multifaceted clinical operations.
- Preferred candidates will the following software skills: advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat (enabling the creation and management of professional documents, reports, and digital content), and experience with advanced scheduling platforms (including Qgenda).
- A high level of professionalism and integrity, including the proven ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Experience providing executive-level administrative support to faculty leadership, including coordination of complex priorities, is highly valued; additionally, familiarity with graduate medical education or fellowship program administration is strongly preferred, as it supports the programmatic and operational needs of the division.
- Knowledge of university systems, policies, and procedures particularly within a UNC or comparable academic setting is preferred and considered a significant asset that will facilitate seamless integration into the role.
