Position Title Second Year Acting and Directing Faculty Member
Position Number 035212
School/Department Information
Frequently ranked as one of the best drama schools in the world, the School of Drama at UNCSA, prepares talented young artists for successful careers on stage, online, and in film and television. Conservatory training grounded in classical values adds technical skills to shape creatively inspired and versatile actors who are in-demand in today's evolving entertainment landscape.

Position Summary
The UNCSA School of Drama seeks a dynamic teacher of acting who is prepared to join our second-year acting sequence wherein our students are engaged in a series of rehearsal processes that culminate in a stripped-down workshop play presentation - not a public performance. Building on a strong first-year foundation, this teacher will guide our students further into text analysis while keeping them rooted in physical impulse/storytelling. The second-year acting faculty are tasked with directing our students through a series of increasingly theatricalized plays each quarter - contemporary realism, contemporary with heightened theatricality, period and style, and finishing with something absurdist or expressionistic in nature. By exposing our students to a wide variety of material, it is our goal to make them employable across all genres and styles.
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
This teacher will also be expected to teach a Special Topics course that fits within their area of expertise. Experience teaching improvisation, entertainment industry awareness, and the ability to help facilitate industry guests are greatly welcome. This position also holds the potential to direct within our main-stage season. The ideal candidate has at least five years teaching at the collegiate level, professional experience within the entertainment industry, is ready to train exceptional young actors selected through a highly competitive audition process, and is excited to evolve the training program forward. The person hired in this position must be collegial and willing to serve within the greater community of the university through committee work.
Required Qualifications
The UNCSA School of Drama recognizes that not all teaching is done in a traditional classroom setting and we are able to hire artists based on their work experience; therefore, we encourage all that are interested to apply.
Faculty teaching undergraduate level courses must possess: Earned doctorate/master's degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline or earned master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline OR Equivalent professional/experiential qualifications OR Equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
