Job Summary

Postdoctoral Fellow in Protein Biochemistry and Assay Development in the Skolnick Group in the School of Biological Sciences at Georgia Tech

Seeking an experienced in vitro cellular pharmacologist with expertise in advanced cellular assay systems to support mechanistic studies of target biology, metabolite target interaction and compound activity. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with 2D cellular models(some experience with and 3D culture including spheroids and organoids is desirable), as well as functional and target engagement assays. The candidate will be highly motivated, be a self-starter, and be able to independently design and execute experiments, interpret complex data, and work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities Include:

Design and execute mechanistic in vitro cellular studies to investigate target biology and evaluate compound activity.

Develop, optimize, and apply advanced cellular assay systems using 2D cell models (some exposure into 3D models, including spheroids and organoids, is desirable).

Perform functional assays, including proliferation, viability, dose-response, and washout/recovery studies.

Develop and implement target engagement assays, including NanoBRET and NanoBiT approaches, to characterize proteinprotein and proteinsmall molecule interactions.

Engineer cellular models and signaling pathways using modern molecular biology techniques.

Generate, validate, maintain, cryopreserve, and catalogue stable cell lines for research applications.

Prepare cell culture media, reagents, growth factors, compounds, and other materials required for experimental studies.

Independently troubleshoot complex experimental and technical challenges and implement appropriate solutions.

Collect, analyze, interpret, and document quantitative experimental data using appropriate analytical and statistical methods.

Maintain complete, accurate, and reproducible electronic records of experimental procedures, results, and data analyses.

Develop, update, and maintain detailed protocols and standard operating procedures for cellular assays and laboratory processes.

Contribute biological and experimental expertise to project planning, study design, and research strategy.

Collaborate with computational scientists, chemists, biologists, and other multidisciplinary team members to advance research programs.

Communicate complex scientific findings clearly through written reports, presentations, publications, and discussions with internal and external stakeholders.

Present research findings at project meetings, scientific conferences, and other professional forums.

Contribute to manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and other scientific publications and presentations.

Maintain cell culture instrumentation and laboratory equipment, including routine cleaning, calibration coordination, contamination monitoring, and CO supply checks.

Assist with laboratory operations, including inventory management, procurement of supplies, obtaining quotes, and tracking reagents and consumables.

Monitor scientific and technical developments relevant to advanced cellular models, target engagement, and compound evaluation.

Take ownership of assigned research programs, manage experimental priorities, and meet project timelines in a fast-paced research environment.

Attend required meetings and participate in team, laboratory, and professional development activities.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing and demonstrate scientific rigor, initiative, collaboration, and a strong sense of timeliness.

Required Qualifications

PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Enzymology, Chemical Biology, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong hands-on experience in recombinant protein production, enzymology, assay development, and biophysical characterization.

Excellent problem-solving, data analysis, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within interdisciplinary teams.

Required Documents to Attach

Applicants should upload a single PDF, which should include:

Cover letter stating your interest in this position.

Your fit and previous experience related to this position description, including scientific goals and interests.
