Candidates must have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree and demonstrated potential to lead a first-rate and independent research program at the time of hire. Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay as determined by academic rank and step at appointment. Actual salaries at UCSF are based on three components (X, Y and Z). The X component is associated with one's Academic Rank, Step and Academic Programmatic Unit and is on that amount which benefits are calculated. In the Department of Medicine the X component ranges from $121,100 for an Assistant Professor Step 1 to $320,100 for a full Professor Step 9. The Y component is the annually negotiated salary above the X component and the Z component is related to additional incentives or bonus salary.
