The Department of Neurosurgery at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School and Dell Children's Medical Center are recruiting an accomplished academic leader who will serve as Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Dell Children's Medical Center and the surgical Co-Chief of UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children's Hospital. The Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery will report to the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Dell Medical School and collaborate with the neurologist Co-Chief to further develop UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children's, a collaborative, multidisciplinary academic neuroscience program.

We seek a motivated individual with outstanding leadership and mentoring ability, excellent clinical skills, and a record of educational contributions and scholarship. Research support is available for an appropriate individual. The successful candidate will meet academic qualifications for regular faculty appointment as an associate or full professor within the Department of Neurosurgery at Dell Medical School. Candidates with expertise in all clinical subspecialties will be considered.

Dell Medical School is located on the main campus of The University of Texas at Austin, one of the country's leading research universities. The medical school pursues innovation in healthcare delivery, excellence in healthcare research, and outstanding professional education. Dell Children's Medical Center is a 300-bed freestanding facility that features a level 1 pediatric trauma center, a level 4 neonatal intensive care unit, a level 4 epilepsy center, and Magnet recognition for nursing excellence.

The pediatric neuroscience program is expanding from two to four pediatric neurosurgeons. The program currently features 20 child neurologists with a variety of clinical and research interests, a pediatric neuro-ophthalmologist, nine pediatric neuropsychologists, and three pediatric PM&R specialists. Available neurosurgical technologies include an IMRIS intraoperative MRI-OR suite, Brainlab and Stealth neuro-navigation, laser ablation, ROSA, and MEG. A 44,000 square foot space adjacent to the hospital provides outpatient clinical space, conference rooms, and academic offices. The Department of Neurosurgery has a newly established neurosurgery residency, and funds are available to create a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship.

The 10th most populous city in the US, Austin is a vibrant, socially conscious university city that is known for its live music scene, contemporary social scene, and international festivals such as South by Southwest (SXSW). Nearby lakes, rivers and the beautiful adjacent Texas Hill Country provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree from an accredited medical school
  • Board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery and applicable credentialing and privileging standards for pediatric neurosurgery.
  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Texas (or the ability to obtain Texas licensure prior to appointment)
  • A record of outstanding clinical care, educational accomplishments, and scholarship
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills and a commitment to excellence in program development
  • Academically qualified for regular faculty appointment as an associate professor or professor of neurosurgery at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School



Hiring is contingent upon obtaining a Texas medical license and the appropriate hospital privileges.
