Position description

Junior Specialist - Urisman Lab

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Junior Specialist to work in the laboratory of Dr. Anatoly Urisman focused on translational pathology research and biological mass spectrometry. This individual will perform experimental research in the fields of cancer biology, cellular signaling, immunology, and translational pathology utilizing specialized biological mass spectrometry techniques. The experimental activities will include but are not limited to:



  1. Tissue and cell culture, RNA/DNA purification, cDNA preparation, quantitative PCR, Western blotting, etc.
  2. MS sample preparation and processing using laser microdissection, affinity purification, HPLC fractionation, TMT labeling, SILAC, etc.
  3. MS data acquisition, including LC-MSMS, DIA, PRM.
  4. Data analysis, including raw data searches, higher-level statistics, and bioinformatics.
  5. Contribution to scientific publications and grants.


Required Qualifications:



  • BS or BA in biological chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field by the time of hire.
  • Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with biological mass spectrometry/ proteomics.
  • Experience with biochemistry, tissue culture and cell biology.
  • Experience with programming/scripting (e.g. Python) and/or statistics (e.g. R).
  • Independent specialized research.


Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $51,300 - $54,600.
