Research Technologist

We are seeking a Research Technologist who will follow protocols and procedures to perform general laboratory duties and techniques. 50% of the time will be spent learning biochemical techniques, including cell culture, enzyme activity assays, RT-PCR, western blot, and immunohistochemistry. The remaining 50% of the time will be spent performing animal models of peripheral nerve crush and aging.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Grow and maintain astrocytoma (CCF-STTG1) cells; conduct high-throughput screening of Rapafucin and Life Chemicals' CNS-focused libraries targeting System xc- in STTG1 cells for glioblastoma and age-related degenerative diseases in the central nervous system.
  • Assist with evaluating glutamate carboxypeptidase II (GCPII) as a therapeutic target in peripheral nerve degeneration and the function of Schwann cells in aging.
  • Study efficacy and pharmacokinetic properties of potential treatments using mouse models of peripheral nerve crush and aging.
  • Maintain aged mouse colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and treating animals.
  • Assist postdoctoral fellow in behavioral and electrophysiological assessments of aging mouse models.
  • Assist in performing histological assessments of therapeutic efficacy in peripheral nerve crush and aging mouse models, including tissue collection, sectioning, and immunohistochemical staining.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
  • Some related post-undergraduate mouse model work experience preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($40,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
