University of California, San Francisco

Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, In Residence

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) invites applications for full-time faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate or Full rank, in the In Residence series.

Context: UCSF is one of the nation's top medical research institutions, and the UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is the largest department of epidemiology in the University of California system. Our department provides a supportive and fertile academic environment for innovative research, with special opportunities for research on population health and health equity and collaboration with researchers from other departments and UCSF schools. Our department has primary responsibility within UCSF for delivering training in the methods of epidemiology, biostatistics, health data science, public health, and health services research. We teach many types of learners, including medical students, fellows, junior faculty, and students in our two master's programs (Health Data Science and Clinical & Epidemiological Research) and in our PhD Program in Epidemiology and Translational Sciences.

Duties: In Residence faculty members in our department are expected to lead an independent, extramurally funded research program; to teach, train, and mentor our students, fellows, and junior faculty; and to take on significant departmental and university service. There are also opportunities for leadership within the department.

Qualifications: Candidates must have:

  • a doctorate in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, medicine, health policy, bioinformatics, data science, informatics, or a closely related field;
  • a record of accomplishment in research, including history of extramural funding;
  • a record of excellence in teaching research methods;
  • a record of mentoring students in applied research or methods development;
  • demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion; and
  • the ability to provide funding of ~85% of own salary for 3 years through extramural and other self-generated funding. For example, the candidate could be the PI and/or co-investigator on NIH R01 grants or equivalent grants from other funding agencies.

Faculty with research portfolios in population health and health equity and faculty with diverse backgrounds historically under-represented in science are particularly encouraged to apply. We seek candidates who will contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence and enrich our culture of collaboration. Qualified individuals who are currently Assistant Professors (or equivalent) are encouraged to apply.

Please apply online at https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF05102, with a CV, cover letter, statement of research, statement of teaching, statement of contributions to diversity, and 3 reference contacts.
