General Notes

This position may be required to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. This job is not suitable for remote work and is expected to work regular on-site hours. Must be capable of diagnosing and making informed repairs and/or maintenance of, but not limited to: engines, tractors (gas & diesel), hydraulics, electronics, tools or equipment (i.e., blowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, reels, bed knives, etc.)

Purpose

To provide a minimum of journey-level skillset work in a variety of trades required for the maintenance, repair, and operation of University facilities and equipment. Responsible for the fabrication, installation, operation, and routine or emergency maintenance and/or repair of University equipment and facilities. Performs a minimum of journey-level work in a particular area of expertise assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Be knowledgeable and capable of operating all equipment and machinery utilized by the turf department including tools and machinery needed to make related repairs or routine maintenance. Repair and maintain carts, sweepers, forklifts, mowers, field equipment, power washers, blowers and all of the miscellaneous equipment necessary to keep the athletics dept. running. Adjust and sharpen reel mowers to ensure proper reel to bed knife adjustment and proper height-of-cut on all cutting units. Reels need to be ground to achieve a consistent quality of cut. Order parts and equipment such as tools, cleaning equipment for shop, and practice facilities. Stock frequently used items. Perform all business office required paperwork/online submissions on all financial parts ordered. Keep good relationship with UT Fleet Services on items that require additional labor/equipment that Athletics is not able to perform in-house.

  • Prioritize performing preventative maintenance on all carts, mowers, and additional equipment. Ensure field equipment is working at optimal levels including back lapping mowers, sharpening blades, height adjustment on equipment especially in preparation of certain sports seasons and weather-related adjustments. Installs, maintains, and repairs electric motors, generators, control panels, vehicles, switches, and accessories. Change/charge batteries often. Fix tires and wheel alignment on various carts. Must be proactive in implementing and logging preventative maintenance programs for all equipment in the turf department. Implement methods and procedures designed to minimize operational costs and maximize resources to ensure the proper working order and longevity of each piece of equipment

  • Tests, diagnoses, and repairs electrical circuits. Repairs and maintains electronic component parts. Working knowledge of many different machinery including mowers, gas/battery powered carts and UTV's, Tennant sweepers and more. Drives a UT vehicle on campus and off. Able to drive forklift and other equipment

  • Help with facilities maintenance at practice facilities, and fields including, but not limited to, DKR, Denius, McCombs, Moody Center, Disch Falk. Work home football games, and Track meets, perform any game day emergency repairs, set up/remove traffic bollards, ticket machines. Assist with post Football game trash removal and other set up/tear down tasks as needed. Remove water barriers for student tickets

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 3 years journey-level experience or related field experience in the Mechanical Field. Must be skilled in performing service repairs and possess demonstrated experience consistently meeting performance metrics. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Salary Range

$48,500 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Emergency On Call: Required to be on the on-call rotation schedule to respond to emergencies outside of normal work hours and during holidays, carry a UT cell phone, and make emergency repairs 24/7 as needed.
