Jr/Asst Specialist

Job Description

A Jr/Asst. specialist position is available in Dr. Haemel's clinical research group (40% effort for 1 year term appointment) (https://autoimmunederm.ucsf.edu/) in the UCSF Department of Dermatology. The Research Assistant will, under direct supervision of the investigator, acquire skills and knowledge of research data analysis relevant to autoimmune skin disease. The Research Assistant will work on small projects or portions of projects within this scope. Specifically, the Research Assistant will assist with data collection and analysis for scoping and/or systematic reviews pertaining to autoimmune skin disease. The Research Assistant will help with clinical data extraction from the electronic medical record (EMR) into spreadsheets/databases for further analysis for clinical studies. Furthermore, the Research Assistant will participate in lab team meetings and statistics consultations and will help with manuscript, figure, and poster/presentation preparation. Where applicable the Research Assistant may also assist with the preparation of IRB applications. Excellent communication skills with our diverse population of patients/research subjects will be valued and further honed, with direct opportunity for observation and feedback. The Research Assistant will assist with research subject recruitment, visits, and related administrative tasks under the direct supervision of the investigator.

Required Qualifications:



  • Well-developed and consistent organizational ability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding aptitude in scientific writing
  • Effectiveness with word processing/spreadsheets/databases


Preferred Qualifications, particularly for more senior positions:



  • Experience with or exposure to clinical medicine including medical terminology
  • Scientific curiosity and a strong motivation to contribute to the field of dermatology
  • Prior medical research publications
  • Fluency in at least one other language in addition to English


Education:



  • Junior Specialists must possess a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or at least four years of research experience
  • Assistant Specialist must possess a master's degree or a bachelor's degree with three or more years of research experience
