Position description

Assistant Researcher- Wu Lab

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is now recruiting an Assistant Researcher. The job duties include:



  • Lead a research team investigating complex disease mechanisms.
  • Contribute high-quality data for research grants, manuscripts, and scientific presentations.
  • Mentor graduate students, post-doctorate fellows, and junior staff and provide guidance on study design, data analysis, and innovative methodologies.
  • Oversee project progress, coordinate partner efforts, and report outcomes to leadership and funding agencies.
  • Assists identify new funding opportunities, coordinate submission of new project proposals and preparation of manuscripts.
  • Cultivate relationships with academic, industry, and funding partners.


This position requires a scientist qualified for independent research at the level of principal investigator and is for the job classification of Professional Researcher. It is not a faculty research position.

Required Qualifications:



  • Ph.D. with emphasis in medical sciences, cell biology, neurodegeneration, or related field and a minimum of 5 + years of industry and/or academic experience
  • A thorough understanding of the drug discovery process, including target identification & validation, assay and drug screen development.
  • The candidate should have strong practical experience establishing high throughput microscopy-based screening assays with extensive experience using integrated lab automation systems.
  • Technical proficiency in standard cellular and molecular biology techniques including culturing of cancer, primary and iPSC derived cells.
  • Proficiency in planning, preparing and analyzing various OMICs technologies (transcriptomics, proteomics metabolomics) to develop hypothesis and identify novel targets.
  • Experience in iPSC differentiation workflows.
  • Experience in CRISPR technologies, including arrayed knockdown, overexpression and optical pooled screening technologies.
  • Proficiency analyzing large microscopy, video and tabular datasets using Python or R with working knowledge of machine learning and deep learning approaches.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability, drive for results, and a strong sense of urgency are critical.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong leadership ability to foster a science-driven, goal-oriented culture that values innovation, teamwork, and accountability with experience managing collaborative projects among multiple laboratories.
  • Experience writing research proposals, progress updates and peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication.

  • Track record of independent research
  • Completion of post-doctoral fellowship
