Position Summary

Climbing Tower Attendant is responsible for safely carrying out the operations of the climbing tower and supervising participants at assigned programs.

Essential Functions



  • Will carry out operations of the climbing tower, performing assigned inspections.
  • Ensure all climbing tower equipment and props are used properly and safely at all times.
  • Must have completed Kroc Center Climbing Tower training checklist.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory Climbing Tower Trainings and Meetings for the RJKCCC staff.
  • Facilitate and direct outside organizations in a climbing tower experience.
  • Review the technical and safety questions or concerns on the tower prior to onset of assigned programs.
  • See that all equipment used in Climbing Tower Programs is maintained and properly inventoried.
  • Implement systems that safe guard any and all facilities, supplies and equipment.
  • Report any staff or client injuries/accidents/incidents to the MOD.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized working environment. Report all harmful problems with facilities to the MOD.
  • Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.


Working Conditions:

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions, or bodily fluids as part of the environment. Work environments range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently. Must be able to actively participate in youth games/activities.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred.
  • Interest in climbing for fun & sport.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of small-medium sized groups of children & adults.
  • Must possess CPR, First & AED Certifications.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Must have a philosophy of education, child, and player development that is consistent with that of the Salvation Army Kroc Center.
  • Must have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling, and education including but not limited to:
  • Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.
  • Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently. Ability to handle security and crisis situations calmly.
  • Ability to provide constant and continual supervision.
  • Ability to engage and maintain a child's interest in activities.
  • Ability to present oneself in a professional manner; ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in relation to information and documentation.
  • Ability to lift & carry 40 lbs. and climb up to the top of the Climbing Tower.
