REHABILITATION COUNSELOR - LA CASA MHRC

As part of the Telecare family, La Casa Mental Health Rehabilitation Center (MHRC) is a 192-bed program providing assistance to adults 18 and older.

Shifts Available:

On Call; Shift Hours and Days vary as needed

Expected starting wage is $21.47. Telecare applies geographic differentials to its pay ranges. The pay range assigned to this role will be based on the geographic location from which the role is performed. Starting pay is commensurate with relevant experience above the minimum requirements.

MISSION STATEMENT

Telecare will deliver and manage excellent services and systems of care for persons with serious mental illness.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

With the support of the Rehabilitation Therapist Supervisor, the Rehabilitation Counselor provides rehabilitation therapy services to clients, both on an individual and group basis, and serves as a member of the multi-disciplinary Recovery Team.

QUALIFICATIONS

A B.A. degree in psychology or related field is required. Six (6) months of related practical experience in group facilitation, education and/or event planning with people diagnosed with serious mental illness is preferred. The ability to read, write & speak English is crucial. Experience may be substituted for education. A valid California Drivers License and a driving record that ensures insurability to drive company vehicles are also required. An understanding of psychiatric illness and Recovery principles is essential. Applicant must receive clearance from the Department of Justice. Experience may be substituted for education.

QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF WORK



  • Provides safe, effective and efficient implementation of direct care in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with Clients.
  • Plans and conducts large and small activity groups under the indirect supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation. This includes:

    1. Maintaining awareness of Clients' physical and psychiatric limitations and monitoring the safety of Clients at all times.
    2. Enlisting the cooperation of nursing staff in supporting the structured activity program.
    3. Facilitating Clients' attendance at scheduled activities and focusing efforts on maximizing Client involvement.
    4. Accurately documenting each Client's attendance and response to activity and rehabilitation groups in the medical record.


  • Plans and conducts outings for Clients which are educational and entertaining. When assigned, drives the facility van on outings.
  • Develops a theme and schedules a series of special events for assigned months.

  • Participates as a team member and provides input via reporting observations, concerns and asking appropriate questions.
  • Develops, Implements and Reviews Client Recovery plans
  • Actively participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and Recovery Team Conferences.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and practices Pro-ACT principles in everyday interactions
