Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist Classroom Teacher - Long Term Substitute

Position Summary:

Responsible for the planning and organizing of a program of instructional and therapeutic services provided to students in the district schools in order to meet the needs of the student with Speech and/or Language impairments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develop and write re-evaluation reports based on the results of assessments, data collection, and review of records.

2. Develop and deliver an appropriate IEP for students.

3. Demonstrate an understanding of the regular education curriculum, and the areas that are most affected by a speech and language disorder,

4. Utilize best practices, curriculum materials and teaching methods, in planning and conducting lessons.

5. Demonstrate the ability to make adaptations and modifications to meet individual needs.

6. Schedules students effectively to attend academic and special classes, Speech-Language and other services designated in the IEP.

7. Observe and evaluate students' academic performance, behavior and social progress toward mastery of the curriculum and their IEP goals.

8. Report and maintain student grades as required by AIU/District policies.

9. Establish and enforce rules for positive behavior, and procedures for maintaining a learning environment for students.

10. Collaborate and communicate with parents, education personnel and other service providers to develop mastery of the regular education curriculum and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) designed to increase student learning through specially designed instruction and accommodations for students' needs.

11. Maintain accurate regular education and special education records, paperwork, data, and student files that are in compliance with federal and state regulations and AIU /District guidelines.

12. Follow all administrative policies and rules governing students.

13. Plan for, schedule and support the classroom paraprofessional.

14. Develop and implement transition plans for students leaving the speech and language class.

15. Participate in required AIU/district in services and meetings.

16. Complete other duties as assigned by the building principal or Speech and Language supervisor.

17. Maintain Act 48 hours and ASHA CEUs as required for certification standards in order to keep current certification in the profession of Speech-Language Pathology.

Qualifications

  1. Valid PA Certification in Special Education, Speech and Language Impaired K-12 required.
  2. Highly qualified in Elementary Education.
  3. Praxis core academic tests for educators and Instructional certification are required.
  4. Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology required.
  5. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) of the American Speech-Language Association preferred.
  6. Experience working with school age population preferred.


Additional Requirements:

1. Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR clearances are required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).

2. School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340 (8/2011)) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.

When performing activities throughout the day related to the education of students, the teacher spends the majority of the day standing/walking in the classroom. Working with students may entail kneeling or squatting, stooping and bending from 50-70 degrees at the waist on an occasional to frequent basis.

The teacher must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects (textbooks/materials and equipment such as wheelchairs). The teacher may rearrange the layout of the classroom furniture to enhance the learning situation. The teacher must see and hear on a continuous basis as well as speak frequently. Positions may vary from standing, sitting or walking. On rare occasions it may be necessary to move quickly, or run. The teacher must have manual dexterity to use office equipment, manipulate books and other learning materials, and assist students with various activities. The teacher must have repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding.

1. Be able to lift or carry up to 25 pounds.

2. Be able to bend or twist at the neck and back.

3. Specific vision includes peripheral vision, close vision, and color vision.

4. Be able to stand for extended periods throughout the day.
