Postdoctoral Research Associate - Biomedical & Nutritional Sciences

General Summary of Position:

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Iron Pharmacology Laboratory (PI: Jonghan Kim) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Under the supervision of the PI, the Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for designing and conducting research projects that aim to understand how diet, genetics, and environmental factors affect the transport and toxicity of metal nutrients, including iron and copper, using cultured cells and animal models.

Specifically, we seek individuals with a strong background in pharmacology and experimental therapeutics and reasonable working knowledge in nutritional, biomedical, and pharmaceutical sciences. Candidates with a background in biology, chemistry, or related field who can demonstrate competence in pharmacology and toxicology will also be considered. They should be highly motivated, be able to work well in teams, and have excellent communication skills (verbal and written). In addition, candidates should not only demonstrate scientific depth and knowledge but also supervise lab personnel. Potential areas of application include: metal/nutrient transport, cancer biology and pharmacology, cardio-oncology, cardiovascular pharmacology, molecular and cellular biology, preclinical pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), PK/PD modeling and simulation, neuroscience, neuropharmacology/neurotoxicology, mitochondrial biology, and instrumental/biomarker analysis.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

* Must have an advanced terminal degree (Ph.D. MD or DVM) in pharmacology, toxicology, chemistry, biology, oncology, neuroscience, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, or the field closely related to pharmaceutical sciences
* Extensive experience in using computer-based tools (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
* Extensive experience in statistical analyses (ANOVA, regression, etc.)
* Extensive experience working with rodents (mice or rats) and cultured cell models
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
* Candidates are expected to have a strong work ethic, strong communication skills (verbal and written), and self-motivation to work independently.

Additional Considerations:



  • Evaluation will begin immediately, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
  • Experience with molecular techniques (cloning, mutagenesis, PCR, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Applicants with fellowship or funding support will be given priority.
