Summary:
The Department Assistant reports to the Receivable Management Supervisor. Performs revenue cycle functions necessary to ensure optimum collections of the CVI receivable. Works with *front office* staff when necessary and may assist in investigating and resolving denials.

Responsibilities:
Verifies payer eligibility and that pre-authorizations and referrals are in place. Enters or updates patient demographic information. Crosswalks codes when required. Reviews accuracy of coding for procedures billed globally.

Enters all charges within two business days of date of service. Reviews and analyzes charge edits reports. Identifies the cause for the edit and correct timely.

Performs daily reconciliation of charges entered into SMS and ECW systems. Reconciles appointment schedule encounter forms to charges entered. Audits encounter form for appropriate assigned physician prior to claims submission. Scans all encounter forms in to document imaging system for future reference.

Provides customer-focused service to assist patients and families with questions.

Performs other related duties assigned such as assisting claims follow up staff with questions related to revenue cycle.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

High school level of knowledge or equivalent.

Experience with CPT ICD-9/10 and HCPCS coding guidelines as well as reimbursement policies and procedures.

Ability to use computer applications including Invision/SMS eClinicalWorks Excel Word Adobe Reader Microsoft Outlook and third party payer websites.

EXPERIENCE:

One year related experience working in a multi-facility hospital clinic or physician*s office setting.

Strong organizational skills required.

Meeting deadlines and ability to work well under pressure.

A normal office environment with some exposure to patients with illnesses or injuries.
