Description

This position will have responsibilities in administration, teaching, research and medical service as they pertain to the general mission of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and the specific needs of the Department of Neurology, Springfield Memorial Hospital, Decatur Memorial Hospital and St. John's Hospital. This faculty member will provide care for critically ill patients with neurologic and neurosurgical illnesses and will serve as a member of the multidisciplinary neurocritical care or stroke teams at SMH and DMH.


Examples of Duties

I. Teaching 10%
1. Ensure the education and continuing education of residents, faculty and staff in the areas of neurocritical care and stroke.
2. Provide lectures, seminars, conferences and teaching rounds for residents and students.
3. Provide bedside teaching during attending rounds with residents and students rotating on the Neurology, Neurocritical care and/or Stroke services at SMH.
4. Attend Neurology Grand Rounds and present two grand rounds per year.
II. Service (Patient Care) 75%
1. Develop and maintain a professional practice in accordance with departmental policy and the University practice plan (SIU Healthcare). This practice includes tertiary care activities in the treatment of stroke and neurocritical care.
2. Participate in SIU tele-stroke program.
3. Attend on the inpatient stroke service at Springfield Memorial Hospital as well as the inpatient Stroke One service at Decatur Memorial Hospital utilizing telehealth platform.

4. Attend in the Neurocritical Care unit at Springfield Medical Hospital Monday through Sunday. The frequency will vary depending on the clinical needs of the department and the number of providers (at times to be done concurrently with stroke service).
III. Administration 10%
1. Work with Springfield Medical Hospital stroke teams in the management of stroke patients.
2. Attend Neurology faculty meetings and participate in SIU, Springfield Memorial Hospital, St. John's Hospital and Decatur Memorial Hospital committees as needed.
IV. Research 5%
1. Participate as principal investigator in multicenter and investigator-initiated clinical trials.
2. Publish research in peer reviewed journals and in other suitable scientific media.


Qualifications

  1. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  2. Board certified or board eligible in Neurology and
  3. Board certified or board eligible in Neurocritical care or Vascular Neurology.
  4. Licensed as a physician in the state of Illinois.
  5. To become credentialed at Springfield Memorial Hospital (SMH), Decatur Memorial Hospital (DMH) and St. John's Hospital.
