Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The primary purpose of this University Police Department is to enforce local and state laws, and to protect lives and university property; patrol the campus, to prevent crimes through high visibility; to investigate crimes occurring on the campus and to respond to emergency situations. Sworn officers within the police department have the powers and authority vested in peace officers as authorized by the General Statutes of North Carolina. Such powers and authorities are granted for the purpose of enforcing North Carolina state laws, 74G, preserving peace at the University, suppressing disturbances, preventing crimes, and apprehending offenders. |
Description of Work |
Multiple temporary assignments may be filled from this posting. ____________________________________________________________________________________________
This position provides law enforcement services to the campus community, to include enforcement of parking, traffic, and ensuring buildings are secure. Interacts with students on a daily basis and provides presentations on various topics to prevent crime or the fear of crime on campus. Provides law enforcement services at special events, to include athletics, homecoming, Viking fest, social activities, as well as ceremonial events. Responds to calls for services, investigates crimes and testifies in court to include administrative court on campus with conduct related matters. |

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications of the position as listed in the position description. |
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation |
Certified law enforcement officer by the NC Criminal Justice Training Standards Division or the NC Sheriff's Training and Standards Division. Must work well with student populations and specifically in an educational environment. Possess excellent verbal communication skills and relates well with faculty, staff and co-workers. |
