Position Summary:



The Maintenance Worker Mechanic, VI performs general construction and maintenance projects.



Position Responsibilities:




  • Install, repair and/or maintain wooden structures such as partitions, furniture, equipment and other wooded articles. Install wallboards, floor and ceiling tile, linoleum, tile and carpets, using hand tools, power tools and carpenter's tools;
  • Mix and pour concrete, lay bricks, cement blocks, ceramic tile, apply grout, point brickwork, apply caulking compound to seal cracks in walls and joints, using mason/bricklayers' tools;
  • Prepare areas for painting. Perform minor painting of buildings and other structures using brushes, rollers or spray gun;
  • Install doors and hardware. Repair windows frames and sashes, cut and replace window glass. Install/repair window shades, blinds and rods;
  • Perform soldering, welding and sheet metal repairs;
  • Perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs, if necessary;
  • Erect scaffolds and sets up ladders. Keep work areas neat and clean;
  • Perform duties assigned as a member of the Fire Brigade;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



Experience & Educational Background:




  • High School Diploma and 3 years of experience in a variety of building trades is required.
  • Construction industry experience is preferred.
  • Valid state driver's license is preferred.



Skills & Competencies:




  • Must possess the strength and dexterity needed to perform the job and the physical ability to move equipment as necessary;
  • Must adhere to operational safety rules and regulations as deemed by the University;
  • Must be able to follow directives and possess good communication skills and ability to interact with building/office occupants effectively;
  • Respirator Fit Testing may be required.



Salary Range:



Grade 6

1199 New Hire rate: $26.93

1199 One Year of Service rate: $27.47
