Basic Function

HF Sinclair in Artesia, NM is seeking a Safety Intern who, under close and frequent supervision, assists Safety Personnel by performing routine safety assignments for the Safety Department.

Job Duties

  • Coordinates project assignments with those of other safety personnel and technicians in his/her discipline group


May be required to do some or all of the following:



  • Conducts statistical analysis of existing safety data and provide reports with recommendations for improvement
  • Conducts research to develop new and improved safety processes
  • Assists in design and plans layout for safety processes
  • Assists with the investigation of safety incidents and prepares reports with recommendations for improvement
  • Investigates the need for the collection and analysis of new safety data and develops collection methods and tools, such as spreadsheets, formatted reports, etc.
  • Reviews engineering projects for safety concerns and recommends necessary changes
  • Researches regulation issues and works with City, State, County and Federal officials
  • Conducts Safety and Health audits of facilities and prepares reports of finding and recommendations
  • Assists with other duties assigned by Safety Manager and Safety Supervisor


Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from timeto time in their sole and complete discretion

Education Level

Some completed courses needed for a Bachelor's Degree in an Occupational Safety Field are required.

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

Completion of junior level courses is preferred.

Required Skills

Basic knowledge of safety concepts, OSHA regulations and ability to apply this knowledge analytically. Basic ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential. Basic knowledge of Microsoft products

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Experience with statistical analysis of safety related data is preferred.

Work Conditions

Office and field based with travel up to 10% of time by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, and driver based environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, working in confined spaces, and exposure to the risk of electrical shock. Subject to all temperatures, weather and road conditions.
