Position Overview


Essential Job Duties
The Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC) in partnership with Consortium host NC State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar in Population and Community Ecology to conduct research and synthesis at the intersection of climate change and invasive species. The mission of the SE CASC is to help fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and people adapt to a changing climate. The SE CASC focuses on the co-production of actionable science for natural and cultural resource management.
The Postdoctoral Scholar will have an opportunity to:

  • Conduct research and data analyses on climate change and invasive species.
  • Develop a quantitative literature review of climate change and invasive species in the Southeast and US Caribbean.
  • Engage with regional scientists and managers in the Southeast Regional Invasive Species and Climate Change (SE RISCC) Network.
  • Mentor a group of graduate student research fellows on a team science project at the intersection of climate change and invasive species.
  • Work with natural and cultural resource managers to translate scientific information.


We are particularly interested in Postdoctoral Scholars who focus on invasive plants to complement work on invasive animals in the Southeast Region. We are also looking for a scholar with strong quantitative skills, including experience with demographic or network modeling.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will be co-mentored by Rebecca Irwin (SE CASC Consortium Director), Cari Furiness (SE CASC Assistant Consortium Director), and technical experts in the SE CASC. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, a research statement (2 pages maximum) detailing field and quantitative skills, a mentoring statement (1-page maximum) discussing their prior experiences and approaches for mentoring students in research, and names and contact information for three professional references. Application review will begin on February 15 until the position is filled.
