You will be expected to analyze and recommend approvals/declines, or new loan terms for proposed transactions for Private Bank Clients.

What You'll Do

  • Manage portfolio comprising primarily loans against Commercial Real Estate. The role will require carrying out independent assessment of the transaction that will include assessment of the underlying property i.e., cash flow assessment, review of valuation reports, understanding of valuation drivers, conducting sensitivity analysis, reviewing appropriateness of structure proposed (covenants), size of the facility, assessment of beneficial owner's net worth etc

  • Based on the assessment, assign credit rating and prepare a credit memo with recommendation rationale. Based on size of the transaction and level of delegated credit authority, will also be able to provide approval

  • Robustly monitor the portfolio (including performance of the underlying properties on an ongoing basis) and ensure pockets of risks within the portfolio are timely identified - be well aware of global, regional and local market events and their potential impact on the portfolio. Ensure portfolio quality remains satisfactory, and any risk concentrations and risk limits do not exceed defined risk appetite and are compliant with risk policies and regulations

  • Maintain a clean shop with good discipline ensuring trades are properly booked / recorded / covenants and conditions timely monitored / credit terms correctly documented / risk reporting systems contain timely and accurate information

  • Support any ad hoc projects assigned on a regional or global level

How You'll Lead

  • Interface directly with front office staff across the WM business division on credit approvals, credit requirements and relationship matters; liaise with clients (where required). Work with the Lending team (1st line of defense) and Relationship Managers to manage risk and try to find an optimal solution especially on challenging asks. Provide timely, transparent communication on the decision-making including risk analysis and approval conditions to the key stakeholders

  • Work with both internal and external auditors to ensure that audits progress smoothly and that any issues raised are resolved promptly

  • Provide timely transaction and portfolio level updates to CRO senior management

Skills You'll Need

  • Extensive work experience in commercial real estate and / or corporate credit and / or structured finance in major International Financial Institutions (with at least Moderate very hands-on experience covering commercial real estate transactions)

  • Very strong excel skill - ability to create financial models (if required). Programming knowledge will be an added advantage. Strong writing skills (ability to write succinctly)

  • Possesses analytical skills and an independent decision-maker mindset with ability to support or defend conclusions

  • Familiar with derivative products, legal documentation and an understanding of rules and regulations in the United States of America especially with respect to real estate transactions

  • Strong self-motivation and a desire to raise the bar; should take pride in the quality of work delivered

  • Have an open mindset and respects challenging views from different stakeholders

  • Ability to work under pressure (on certain occasions) and meet tight deadlines (when required) as well as working with front-office staff in an amicable manner

  • Educational qualification (preferable): Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Science, Statistics, Finance, MBA

Expectations

It is the Bank's expectation that employees hired into this role will work in the New York, New York office in accordance with the Bank's hybrid working model.

The salary range for this position in New York, NY is $125,000 to $203,000. Actual salaries may be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's skill set, experience, education, work location and other qualifications. Posted salary ranges do not include incentive compensation or any other type of remuneration.
